Do you see it Creeping in the dark It creeps over the painted walls Over the beautiful furnishings It darkens all the family pictures we hang like art
Do you see it I ask It has an unseen hold It threatens both young and old Do you not see the darkness How it has grown
I know you see it Why don’t you react He has taken control
You know now that this not fiction This is fact How perfect is this act This dark disguise Only I can see it It is hidden from friends and family eyes
Do you see it I ask Will you remove your mask Look in this mirror with me Tell me we will be safe
I know you cannot do this For this darkness is a thin mist One you use instead of fists And un-seen scars that is easily missed
The only way to get you to see Is to expose the darkness that surrounds me It means I will die Hopefully others will raise their silent cries Do you see the darkness I ask Look in the mirror don’t let it last
Ask for help To loved one's speak Reach out and get the help you seek Do you see the darkness I ask Hopefully together we can make it a thing of the past

About this poem:
For those who live with an abusive partner. This was inspired by a woman that stayed silent. She lost her life and her 3 children died as well at the hand of her husband
What a tragic story. For all those out there that are fearless of this : There is help out there and believe....SEEK IT because nobody but yourself can get you out!! Very nice write Irish ...there are endless silent voices out there that have to be heard..SM

Comfort to many through your compassion! Many thanksgivings & all thankfulness for you being a neighbor with a conscience!

Didn't see this before I posted mine.
But they do have a similar theme. Unspoken and unjustified self shame.
Must be something in the social makeup
Nice write by the way.
