Mom didn't die today

My mother was far from perfect
She always drank to excess
She tried to drown her loneliness
In beer and booze I guess

Came home from school one day
To find her on the floor
My sister and brother were there
And rags stuffed under the door

The whole house of gas did smell
All 4 burners were on they said
The oven door was open as well
The 3 of us wrestled her to bed

By morning she had sobered up
Alive, to face another day
Found her broken coffee cup
With hardly a reason to pray

So sad that children have to live through their parents' broken lives like that. So sorry you had to experience that. It was very fortunate you got home when you did. I pray your adult life has been a good one. Thank you for sharing this experience with others as it might reach someone who is putting there children through the same thing and hopefully will wake them up to the fact that their actions affect others as well as themselves. Take care.

What an excellent write, but so sorry for those your early beginnings. As you say we have other influences in our life as we grow, so need not be copy of our parents, hug
