Flower of Life

He offered her a flower
with petals from the essence of life
conceived and created by nature
nurtured with unconditional love.

She removed the petals one by one
He loves me, he loves me not
I love him, I love him not
Then with a defiant flicker the
candle of life and light went out

I liked the simple way you put that and yes sadly that does happen. Bit by bit we peel the layers away until we get to the essence

Yep liked it muchly thumbs up

@ red .... thanks for the review, appreciated... I wrote a small book of poems around that time in my life, not sure how many will end up in these pages though... but I guess that one is a start...

So sad - he gave his love to her and she shredded it. Thank you for this simple but heartfelt poem.

@ godsprincess ... many thanks for the welcome and your critique... perhaps I will be a semi regular among these pages, who knows what the goddess has in store for me this time... bouquet

Those who think and feel deeply, often become a victim of the shallow, cruel, and whimsical - it happens every day. It's happened to me a few times before; and obviously it's happened to you. Sometimes it pays not to invest our emotions too deeply; especially towards those who don't deserve them.

@ lovecanbereal ... if you go through life 'holding back' your feelings because someone might not be deserving, your subconsciously preempting a failure, not being fair to the other person by even giving them a chance... this will often mean you never find a person who is worthy, far better to give all and then work through any changes as, or if, they happen...

people will change, they fall out of love or come to the realisation that it was never there in the first place... and often that will occur well into a relationship.. then the choice is to leave or stay... and that is sometimes not so easy...
