What

What path is taken
Cannot be taken back
And footprints mark
And wash away
Like memories we thought
Would be remembered
A journal always open
Better left blank

Even blank pages leave scars.
How many doodles, or riddles, or boyhood dreams were scrawled across spiral-bound leaves?

All that remains are the ordered lines of the surviving pages, and the confetti of the casualties, still hung in the wire.
