THE SHELF

Placed away on a shelf out of sight
In the darkness – not a speck of light
Only taken out once or twice a year
Hanging around to always be near

The years go by one by one the same
Sitting there hid as though in shame
Only taken out in the dark of night
To be still hidden even in full sight

As time passes by waiting there
Worn – ragged – with lots of tears
No longer waiting but resigned despair
Knowing eventually the time will be near

Again the time comes to bring out to see
But behold - no longer there – now free
Gone forever – not sitting there
Reaching out – but meeting nothing but air.

This poem strikes a deep, deep chord with me...when i feel very down, i listen to a song by Wings called 'i must do something about it' - it expresses similar feelings and emotions- well written as always...one bright note -we two do share something in common today (11 July) -so sending best wishes and respects to you upon the day x

Taken for granted that will always be there at their time and convenience. Meanwhile expecting you to sit there and wait - wait - wait for that day or night to come. 2 missed Christmases and my birthday this year.
