Careless days my youth Those endless nights Where taps always flowed A crowded dance floor Music and lights Well stocked bar Polished chrome Girl with a pretty smile Perched right next to me Waiting for an invitation To dance the night away A request never made Fear drowning courage My awkward speech That stumbling gait Fumbling hands shook The moment was lost No words were spoke Yep there’s the bloke Standing in awe Of such beautiful creation Wondering all the time Is love gonna be enough

About this poem:
Awkward to speak about, that feeling so insecure sometimes is really very natural and ok sometimes.
There is also the girl version of being the wall flower waiting to be asked and heart crushing when not. Being just as nervous as the guy. However, not all of us are what guys consider beautiful creations. I've always been told that beauty is only skin deep, but when you are as shy as I am and the guys all pass you up - it's hard to believe that saying. Not all of us girls are bubbly and gushy and outgoing. But you never no guys - there may be a gem underneath all that shyness. Thanks for sharing.
Know - not no - wish you could go back in on the comments to edit - grr!

Love the transparency of this poem, thanks for sharing it with us all I am sure many men and women can relate to it Yankee4you, I can, times have changed and woman are more forward these days so it isn’t all left to the man to say hi but I think both men and women have missed opportunities to connect through feeling shy or fear of rejection
Kathy Your comment was very emotive and I have to say I do believe real beauty ..that doesn’t fade is found skin deep and beauty like art is in the eye of the beholder. I used to be painfully shy, it took a very long time to gain confidence and increased self-esteem. Don’t know why you don’t think you are attractive, I’m guessing you haven’t been at the right place, right time to meet your match but he is out there
I feel like this is the limbo in which many of us find ourselves, in the online dating world vs in real life; it's scary to approach anyone, without knowing in advance whether we will be accepted.

loved the poem....I saw it mostly from the other side, as a dance teacher in a hall of hopefuls, and fellow teachers dancing with any wallflowers. Great write Yankee4you...…..Kathy
