Caught in a quiet avalanche, you see me as I want you to.
Though you think me near, I am secretly further away.
I nod and smile in the right places like they're not rehearsed lines.
We're both alone when we're together, and I am that with everyone.

So true. Especially if I'm hurting about something. Put on a smile and cheerful face in public but inside I'm in turmoil. So many hurting people out there. Good short poem.

Thank you, godsprincess. I think we put a brave face on because we expect that people won't care, or fear being vunerable in front of them if they do. Maybe we feel like we would be burdening someone else, so we hold back. Maybe we sometimes feel like saying how we feel won't change a thing.
