The lionheart.........

It was just a annual dinner
For the fundraisers and their lot
The seating was prearranged
A mixture of who and what
I had an old fella next to me
Who didn’t mind a drink
And the questions that he asked
Made me stop and think
He was just shy of eighty
With a chuckle you’d admire
And he queried me on everything
As I searched for his desire
But my ears tweaked with intent
As he spoke of his friend
A woman of ninety three
He’d support till the end
They’d been friends for years
And she was nursing home bound
But he visited her everyday
To take her all around us
Everyday and in every way
He’d make her life a joy
Never a doubt in his words
No time left to be coy.........
