You think you may see me, but your eyes only perceive my disguise. What you see is a mask, I look out, from behind at the word, with careworn weary sad eyes.
You’ll only see what I want you to see. Never the real me inside. I’ll never show you, my expressionless face. Just a mask, always wearing a smile.
No more feelings They have all gone Nothing left on the inside
I stare down into the abyss It stares back up at me Both us sharing the nothing inside That I hide so nobody can see No more feelings left They have all gone Nothing left here on the inside
Outside I’m laughing Inside you won’t hear a sound My mind is a prison, Where no trace of emotion is left behind to be found
No means of escape There is no way out No doors not even a key Sit in darkness and silence here inside my head Nobody can set me free
No more feelings They have all gone Nothing left on the inside
I stare down into the abyss It stares back up at me Both us sharing the Nothing inside That I hide so nobody can see No more feelings They have all gone Nothing left here on the inside

About this poem:
Not much to say about this one. It's dark but I like it
This is well written and so true for so many. Actually the world has become a master of disguise. Gone are the days of getting to know others. Your neighbors, your work mates and/ or your mate. Everyone wearing the mask not wanting to be seen A mask made of pain. I share a good bit of me and how I feel in life yet even I hold back some, that no one ever sees.
@Happygolucky4u I'm glad you think this piece is well written. It is not so much about the masks that we all wear as we go about the world, but about what is colloquially called “Smiling Depression”
