History in Stone .........

I took a stroll down memory lane
So much history love and pain
Broken tombstones with no name
Some beautiful some plain

Many from long ago
Gone but not forgotten sorrow
Some alone others to borrow
Very aware of their tomorrow

Skilled craftsmen chiselled fate
From whence they came to relate
Their destiny and their date
Golden hands to create

I glance across what I see
An entire field of history
All marked with an identity
Worldly in its entirety ........

Thanks for sharing Nu. Graveyards can be sad, melancholy and interesting all rolled into one. In the town I was born in there are many old gravestones for the 1800's with interesting information on them. One man had one monument with his name on and his FIVE WIVES!! Another one shows a picture of a house on Main Street with an open window. What happened is the young man fell out the upstairs window of the house and was killed. So many interesting and sad stories.

Stone........A natural product of the Earth. Having had the unfortunate displeasure of being labeled a "Stone Mason," and all of the laborious tasks associated with it for nearly 9 years of my life, I can say to you with absolute certainty that I do not miss any portion of it whatsoever. The hardest stones have always been the most sought-after for such applications, simply due to the fact that the person(s) involved with that difficult finalization of the deceased made appropriate efforts to memorialize said lost out of repsect to have them be remembered for as long as possible.... A noble and admirable act. Granite is now used almost exclusively. Enough of facts, in regard to your Poem, I find the topic and content quite interesting. It is of subject matter that all must consider no matter how long they refuse to. In terms of the writing style, I love it. You have made great progress, and have consistently proven yourself a well-balanced and diverse writer. Now I wonder if the memories of the lost will pass quickly, or remain a stain......similiar to the pains I felt hammering and chiseling for 9 'lost' years of my life....Wishing you well........................
