History in Stone .........

I took a stroll down memory lane
So much history love and pain
Broken tombstones with no name
Some beautiful some plain

Many from long ago
Gone but not forgotten sorrow
Some alone others to borrow
Very aware of their tomorrow

Skilled craftsmen chiselled fate
From whence they came to relate
Their destiny and their date
Golden hands to create

I glance across what I see
An entire field of history
All marked with an identity
Worldly in its entirety ........

Thanks for sharing Nu. Graveyards can be sad, melancholy and interesting all rolled into one. In the town I was born in there are many old gravestones for the 1800's with interesting information on them. One man had one monument with his name on and his FIVE WIVES!! Another one shows a picture of a house on Main Street with an open window. What happened is the young man fell out the upstairs window of the house and was killed. So many interesting and sad stories.

Stone........A natural product of the Earth. Having had the unfortunate displeasure of being labeled a "Stone Mason," and all of the laborious tasks associated with it for nearly 9 years of my life, I can say to you with absolute certainty that I do not miss any portion of it whatsoever. The hardest stones have always been the most sought-after for such applications, simply due to the fact that the person(s) involved with that difficult finalization of the deceased made appropriate efforts to memorialize said lost out of repsect to have them be remembered for as long as possible.... A noble and admirable act. Granite is now used almost exclusively. Enough of facts, in regard to your Poem, I find the topic and content quite interesting. It is of subject matter that all must consider no matter how long they refuse to. In terms of the writing style, I love it. You have made great progress, and have consistently proven yourself a well-balanced and diverse writer. Now I wonder if the memories of the lost will pass quickly, or remain a stain......similiar to the pains I felt hammering and chiseling for 9 'lost' years of my life....Wishing you well........................

Hi Nu. So magically beautiful poem. in such places pain and love, memory or oblivion are always felt. Thank you so much for sharing your poem with us. Enjoyed it very very much. Re. Lily wave

I apologize for this long comment but I haven't commented for what feels like donkeys years, so oblige me dear.

Many years ago I read a poem of yours about the struggles in life of your beautiful mother that touched my heart because of how parallel our lives were. I've been with you since then. This 'History on Stone' reminded me of her and our most recent visit to her grave. I grew up with a pain-riddled history, of anguish, of suffering and even shame; yet a history full of love, compassion, care and determination too! Once more I read between the lines....hence my decision to stop being content reading and watching from the sidelines.

I may not describe your writing as 'magically beautiful' but I am and always will be your greatest fan! I speak matter of factly and have no need to laced my words with superlatives; buttery praises nor hints of admiration just to make you feel good or to score a point. I realize how flattering it is to give and receive praises/admiration from one you equally admire yet sometimes it ain't worth it and sometimes it pays to draw the line the soonest. It is my wish and prayer those overt praises and admiration will soon cease and find a more appropriate, preferably single, recipient. To overtly or covertly and continually praise or admire...would look too obvious and biased. I guess much like the fact that you did not consider, think or feel it would mean the world to me if you commented on a Note I wrote on social media. It would have validated all those beautiful comments left by other people.

Our first two years together were laced with growing pains as we ironed out our differences but the last five have been a balm to our hearts. I knew love could grow but I have never had that before so had no idea how blessed, peaceful and content one could be when it finally happens. I love you more each year because each year we overcome our differences; love, respect and trust grows too. Thank you for always being the loving, caring, supportive, indulging husband you are; but most of all, thank you for loving me at my best and loving me more at my worst. I value our union second to none but my relationship with my God. You know I will guard 'us' like the Lioness that I am and I will never be complacent when it comes to protecting it.hug teddybear purple heart

Again, thank you for this write. My other wish and prayer is that next time we visit your mother and sister's grave, I hope and look forward to find a "History on Stone' beckoning us to where they lay resting so you won't need to recall again which row they're in. comfort Oh!... and a vase for fresh flowers...that too, I must remember!... bouquet
