Don't Send Me There

I heard in a song by INXS
Look at the faces
Listen to the bells
It's hard to believe we need a place call Hell
There are many hells on this planet
The hells that are created in our schools
The hells created by poor pay to our workers
The hells created by our government fueled by power and greed
And the hells created for our elderly in nursing homes
My definition of a home is place where you feel love
A place where you feel safety
A place with good food and drink
By that definition we should call these places nursing houses
They have walls
They have roofs
But do they have the other things I just mentioned?

About this poem:
I had over an hour conversation with my mom on the possibility of her going into a nursing home. The song at the beginning of my poem is Devil Inside.

Hi Mcradloff,
This is a really tough time both for you and your mum...will you be able to visit because of Covid19 etc. I wish you both good luck in your decision.

Regards Mick.

Regarding a nursing home at this time Mcradloff I would not recommend it. I have worked in one as a nutritionist some time ago. If you have the possibility to find someone who can take care of your Mom and you can offer a roof for that person it would be a wise decision. I live in a Senior complex but I still work. The residents that live here that are in their 80s, 90s are living in isolation to be protected. They are permitted visitation by family members. The CDC guidelines are very strict here but people can enjoy some freedom. What we have here is called affordable housing and some plans allow them to have a caregiver live in. So do your research for your Mom and I hope you accommodate her to the best place of your choice. Best of luck my friend. May this coming year brighten you and your family for the best. SMteddybear

Hi, mcradloff,
My definition of a home is place where you feel love...
What a powerful message you have written. Thanks for sharing it with us. Remember, even though There are many hells on this planet, love can make any place a home. Wishing you the best in 2021.
