The house

The house was
single clad fibro,
hot as hell in summer
of course
and cold in winter
outside toilet and laundry
hot water from
the copper or kettle
blocks of ice for the ice box
delivered by horse and cart

but then came a fridge
a radio with superman
hot water showers and taps
olympics and soon tv
mickey mouse club
annette funicello
and dog first then gagarin
cuba and jfk.

Life it seems soars and plunges.
