Listen to the church bells ring In the tower by the town's square Just listen to the joy they bring The familiar hymns make all aware When all the earth shall sing To the love of dear God we share
When you ring to tell us time As we wait we all will find Our ears will count each chime Subconsciously in our mind The hours of each day sublime Getting through our daily grind
Through the seasons we shall pass Be comfort and content that will last Resonating from bronze or brass Ring mementos from our past Children playing on the grass Parents working by contrast
Whatever were doing seems to halt When the mighty bells ring out We will stop and listen by default And wait for time to bring about Each precious moment we exalt Those great bells we never doubt

About this poem:
We should all be so reminded of the "peace and love and stability" we all need to share together, as frequently and regularly, as the bells that ring from the church towers.
Thanks for this warm poem. Really miss posts like this one. Prayer is part of my life; be it for family, friend or strangers. Sad to say most churches don't have bells anymore; instead moving lighted messages. The love of our dear God is out there for all who want to receive him. SM
SM Bells are such a gift to listen to as they harken us home to a more familiar, more inclusive sense of place and belonging. I am the "bell keep" of all ten of my town's bells up in the church tower of the church I have attended my entire life, for 60+ years. The main bell rings every hour on the hour and at 12 noon and 4 PM, they all play two 2 minute hymns on the chimes, (electrically and digitally controlled)...each bell a different note that reaches two octaves. Hundreds of familiar hymns and patriotic songs can be programmed. It's totally awesome!! Townspeople for almost a hundred years still love the bells!!
Ocean.... That's so right,,,,, On Saturday farmers market.... when people are busy in the town green...there is this almost like "aria-like" atmosphere when the bells start up......lots of smiles .....especially from tourists.......
