When I left home

No more than eighteen
What could I cook do I remember?
Living in St Kilda I do remember
A young couple tried to show me an omelette

But in fact I knew that already,
And concealed my response
Yet perhaps I bought some kitchen tools.

Arriving in NZ south island
Unsalted porridge was quite a shock
Not now! Never salt such foods.
Times change!

In my backpack then
were mostly books and music
