The Walls Are Crumbling Down -Some Thoughts About Poetry Corner And Adding Two Cents

When I became a member of the Poetry Corner over 10 years ago, this place was warm, welcoming and a balm to one's soul from the weariness of the world. It was a happy place and we were loved and supportive of one and all. cowboy

Over the past two years, someone had come here and caused one heck of a ruckus. Tomes were written and feathers were more than ruffled.Finger pointing and accusations were a ' flyin'. Some even left to never return because of it all and then some.

Sides were taken and sides were listened to without bias nor complaint. questions were certainly raised and not in a good way. Screenshots saved, e-mails saved, page upon page of accusations and blame gaming have been SAVED. RECEIPTS have been kept should anyone have need of them. The long and end game is now coming into play.

For two years, ugliness has reigned here and for what? Oneupmanship, someone ALWAYS has to be on TOP? What For? It boils down to ego and control. You know what it does? It causes new members to leave and for older members to stop sharing their works. It makes us ALL look bad. Every. Last. One. Of. Us. It becomes a self-containing, navel gazing echo chamber. Surely you want better than that? Right?

We should be better than this. We should be behaving like responsible, mature adults. Instead, the walls have been crumbling down here and have for two years. Continue on as you are going right now and this place is FINISHED. This shouldn't ever have to said.

Please keep my words to heart. No STALKING, no harassment, no more sadness for all and sundry. I'm law enforcement so be sure to take care with words and actions from here on out because CONSEQUENCES will be coming for us all. Be supportive of one another, gently guide and remember to always be kind and gracious TO ALL.

The whole world has changed over the last 10 years. People have changed. I agree with Fargo

Reader, first of all, I want to thank you for your long years dedicated to your job. As you said you can only do so much and get worn out. I worked for social services for several years and know how it feels.
Wishing you wisdom for your future choices. Thanks for posting, we are always here to receive your poems and comments. SMteddybear

You know, lovecanbereal,

You have nailed it right on the head! Holy cow, It's the disillusionment and the feeling that our works aren't appreciated. I'm coming to realize that we're lucky to be acknowledged in life and our written contributions here may find the right person to touch their heart and soul. There are 'non poets' who don't get our works or what they convey. So yes. the works get lost over time.

I've been trying to think of what we can do to get some more traffic over here, short of going into the forums and advertising 'Hey! Come on over to the Poet's Corner and meet our wonderful and talented writers!' Goodness, that sounds just like a tv commercial. Would you have any ideas on that? cowboy

Hi R.O.S.
Having read your opinion on Poets Corner,
I'm not totally in agreement with you. Sure from time to time there are flare-ups but I think the foundations are structurally sound here. We don't all "get" each others poems or agree but that's life. It's a platform to share our feelings in verse...a good facility to have.
Lastly I feel you have committed a small crime...poets here like receiving comment and yet Fargo was first to comment on your poem and you bypassed him and went straight to Kathy. Every comment deserves recognition.
By the way there is not even a hint of bitterness in my words as I write this but I think it would be hypocritical of me not to point it out. professor

You're very right in pointing the old Poets. thumbs up
Yes they were very helpful and their comments were valuable.
They showed love in Comments and many were loved by each other in the poetry corner.
I think the main thing here is poets ignored replying comments and fall starts.
When one comment and other doesn't reply than the commentator loose heart.
The downfall starts. Let's bring up the poetry corner update and start it again by commenting and replying to comments.
All Members of Poetry Corner
Live Long Happy and Healthy.

Thank you ALL for the kind replies, especially FargoFan (I have enjoyed conversing with you through e-mail). If I don't comment right away, it's not intentional whatsoever. I had something land on my desk that needed attending to at that moment and a phone call had to be made. I truly try to get back to everyone with a personal reply as soon as I possibly can. :-)

Timote, you are so right- We are ALL so important here and are the cogs to help keep this wheel turning.

Thank you Mizz (Mick) for your observation( absolutely loved your latest work and have been meaning to post a reply there to you and will be sure to as soon as I can! :-)).
Sure some squabbles will arise from time to time(without them I don't believe we'd be human and they help keep us on our toes even during the aggravation of them) and it's good to see that works are still being produced even if they aren't getting a million posts. :-)

Thank you so much ladies and gentlemen, for your words and insight and above all for 'listening' to someone who's just needed to be a moment to speak. teddybear I can count on one hand the friends that I have, that I would lay my life down for. Somehow over the years you've become the family I never knew that I needed. And from the deepest wells of my heart, you're appreciated, respected and loved far more than you'll ever know. teddybear hug

I would like to add that there are several of us public servants who have served for many years and have done so willingly. I worked as a Social Welfare Examiner at Social Services and a Secretary at the Public Health Department in Child Health for a total of 35 years. So I have seen a lot and yes safety has been an issue at times as interviewing a threatening client who I found out later carried a handgun in her purse. Hiding in closets when clients came around the building with rifles until the police got there. However, we faced taxpayer displeasure at pay raises and such. Our county was the lowest paid all around. We took pride in our work as well. But I must say I am happy to be retired.

As far as poems - I write to make myself happy and am only on Connecting Singles to post my poems as they say they are copyrighted. Will I make money off them...not holding my breath. I have had friends, family and classmates encouraging me to publish a book - BUT as I have told them many times that there are many poets but very few famous ones and I only do it for my pleasure. Certainly don't expect to get rich from it. And I am very much an amateur poet compared to most on here.

You did good work, Kathy, and I'm pleased to learn that there are those who do this work because we all work together to do the best we can for the clients and for our communities, cities, states and homes. I've always been in awe of Services work and the dangers that they you all face and I can just imagine that you are glad to be retired. handshake I'm so sorry that your county was going through such problems. It's not an easy row to hoe. As a poet, if what you write makes you happy, more power to you. cowboy :handshake

I don't any of us may be ever be published where the multitudes can read our works. We write for our happiness and what moves us at that time of the writing. Emotions put into the painting of words is the artwork of our souls.

As to the original topic of this thread, I wish to say that you guys were totally RIGHT about the individual. I had to cut them loose because they were getting so demanding and needling on my time. You guys were so darn right! handshake Hindsight being 20/20, having that individual removed was the best thing done all around. I also wish that I had never asked what had happened. A life lesson learned for certain!

I put on this gun belt and body armor every day and just say a prayer that I get to come home in one piece at day's end. Being family people we just want to go home to our families at the end of our tours and shifts. We all do. I have to keep a shotgun and a couple of rifles in the car when I go to work. This is requisite. Due to the nature of my job, I get death threats regularly. I learned long ago to blow them off because there's no use to living in fear. On my hip is an issued .357. A 9 millimeter won't stop a charging hamster in these parts. Our county doesn't play around.

I woke up this mornin' feeling a lot better than I have in a long time. Thank you ALL once again for each and every one of ya'lls input. cowboy teddybear

Morgen,

I'm so sorry that you have been dealing with some health(?) issues. I hope that they get resolved swiftly.

I don't think we ever consider ourselves superheroes as we're going about our jobs. To the outside eyes looking in it sure may seem like it though. *Chuckle*

We're all part of this 'ol wheel spinnin' round here and without us it may cease to spin at all. I like to see it spinnin' even if it is a bit more leisurely these days. cowboy teddybear wine
