To be her love her lover

I thought long and carefully
Knowing we could if I took that step
But walking up the hill to the station
That day I thought
being the friends we are now
Is something to keep and not to be lost
Yet I still have this longing
and she knows too
When last we met she looked
and I saw how she looked
Seeing me now aging
But still she knows how I feel

I've been in a similar position...that longing for a good friendship to become even more. And though you know that it's a dilemma that many have faced, it doesn't make your longing go away or your decision to act/not act on it any easier.
