Give respect, where respect is due. And honour me, as I honour you. Don’t love me, yet publicly shame me; Don’t make me feel less than I am. I shouldn’t have to say these words, But maybe your love’s a sham.
I’m sorry if what I did ‘hurt’ you, I never meant to at all. Unintentionally, I may have offended, But don’t rebuke me with such gall. The ego is what feels the bruises; No real pain was evident. I love you though I am imperfect, So to hurt you was not my intent.
Give respect, where respect is due. And honour me, as I honour you. The depth of our love will be the clue, If you love me as I love you.
Didi, I think you've done a wonderful job sharing your most Christian-like portrayal of the meaning of respect. For one who practices my faith on a regular basis I can instantly recognize how your faith has also influenced you and your poetry. Thank you very much!!
