Bittersweet Memory

I kept this yellow ribbon to tie
It around the old oak tree
I wondered if it would make you
Actually think of me

I leant across the trunk today
Knowing that my feelings had flown away
All that was left was the memory

Of our love that which we shared
The momentary kiss to know you cared
The heartfelt absence of you not being there
Made my heart ache within, and I knew
That you weren't being very fair!

I tied that yellow ribbon to the tree
And left it to sway within the wind
And as it danced, feeling free
It pirouetted into a new beginning

It made me feel lighter today
As my burdens and anxieties went away
Dancing freely, like the leaves
That swirled, twirled, helping me to finally feel

Free
