King of the Cat World - Jan 15, 2010
Jim Magee - Poet of the "Common" Man
Dedicated to "Billy" the Tiger Cat
I sat here one day, looking out at the tree
That sits by the path near the walk
When down walked the king of the cat world I'm in
I'm shocked to find out he can't talk
Around the corner he came and down towards my chair
And he sat there just looking at me
As if to say "Not so fast my good man"
"There's a few things I want you to see"
"I may be small, but just give me some time"
"I've got me some growing to do"
"Don't make any decisions before checking with me"
"That's what I'm telling you"
"I know what you thought, but so sorry to say"
"You're not in-charge of this mess"
"All you should know, is that I'm now in-charge"
"Just so you won't be needing to guess"
"You just watch what you do, cuz I run the show"
He seemed to be saying, you see
"You just relax and leave things in my care"
"Cuz the "kids" always listen to me"
"You do your part and set out the food"
"It's a tough job but you've got to do it"
"As long as I'm fed and have plenty of water"
"I know that we both will get through it"
That being said, more or less without words
He turned and strode back up the path
As if to say, "I've said all I can"
"There's no need to show any wrath"
"He gets the picture, I've done my job"
"To show him who's really the boss"
"I'm Billy, the King of the Cat World, you know"
"My winning is really your loss!"
"GET OVER IT!!!"
