Footprints in the Sand

Footprints in the Sand

The feeling of hope and unimpeachable dreams abound
Breathing in the wonderfulness of nostalgic tranquil heat
A place that’s mine, my sanctuary a fragile peace I’ve found
Each step released my tentative journey on hesitant feet

With sullied, tainted love in treacherous tethers bound
Distant correlation, unfamiliar stirring alliance brings light
Rolling breakers crash wantonly ashore and defiantly resound
Freedom, power, stoic assurance lacking permission or respite

Burning inferno volcanic ascendancy quelled tentatively inside
Unwavering loyalty reveals faithfully genuine expectations
Mistral winds blow hot liken the inner voices insistent chide
The golden sun and carpet of rolling green masking deprivation

Mighty mountains confidently stood upward pointed an assertive hand
Summer rose’s unfurled demanding absolute attention and reverence
The beach decries the fall of that mighty mountain now mere sand
Fear captivated, restrictive vicelike grip holds penchant prevalence

The sun secretes her face down swallowed whole devoured by night
The heat of the blazon sun diminished by a perpetual moving hand
As summer burns excitingly hot, azure skies impart longevity of light
Tomorrow will our new found amity by here or like the footprints in sand?

About this poem:
I wrote this poem with thoughts of venturing again into new friendship, betrayal is very hard to overcome and leaves vunerabilty and mistrust, the tentitive steps toward new friendship can be like a cripple rising up from the wheelchair to take those first few shaky steps filled with apprehension and fear. Do we ever overcome that fear of treachery to start again or is it merely masked in fear of being alone?

Surprise

Wow you put me in shock,
For you had a world to rock!
Little did I know,
Where my weekend would go.
Then when I answered the phone,
I knew I would not be alone.
You knew where I wanted to be,
So you called to surprise me.
This you do very well,
Because you are so swell.
Each surprise comes from your heart.
I love surprises from my sweetheart!

In the Heat

In the heat of the day
nothing moves but my dreams.

For it cannot.

All is quiet around the house
and nothing bad shall disturb me.

For it cannot.

In the quiet heat of today
I will think of no one but you.

For I cannot.

The Longest Wait

I'm lying here,
all alone forever waiting,
as the fever grows I think of nothing else,
the sweat saturates my entire body,
leaving no area dry,
but still i lie here ever waiting,
for i know my true love with heal me,
with one single kiss i will be reborn,
whole and healed,
with one simple smile she will give fire to my heart and the strength to embrace her,
ow how I long for that day,
the day when we finally meet,
the day I hold her and can truly say "your mine",
that day will come, and only the heavens can stop us,
only God can stand in our way,
for our love is pure and no mortal can interfere,
but for now I wait, while the fever grows,
but all will change,
soon

Slowly I Travel

Upon the road I travel,
my feet move slowly.
For there is always in me
The fear of broken glass.

The thought of that pain
restrains me from running.
I am not free to release
the love in my bursting heart.

If I forgot caution and ran to you,
would you meet me gladly
or retreat and leave me
as shattered as the glass I fear?

Silence

Bright full moon shining in the night,
Giving me light. Such a delight !
Talk to me, tell me and make me see,
That he is thinking only of me.

Beautiful object in the night sky,
Lighten the darkness with
A luminescence smile.
In the quiet of the night, I shout.

Calm and still, but quiet, no!
My heart is shouting for mine own.
Look at this wondrous planet, and see,
And feel my love – so bountiful and free.
So large, as is the silence of the moon for me.

"A cat that owns me "

yeah he sure does, he's a one of a kind that wears no hat, as a matter a fact, he's the coolest cat, he'll wake me 5:30 every morn:) he's weaponed gingerly around noon he know's where the treat will be, he'll perch a ladder, nudge his brush, he owns everything proof's his lip musk, he's a well moused cat, that brings me a treat, padded chair in the kitchen thats where he sleeps, he came to me four years ago, still at my side I love this cat so, my friend to the end:) Bentlee

Cardinal Sacrifice

Father, I fell in your shadow,
your shaded brilliance overlaid
every compass point of my life.

I haven't your talents;
the gods do not love me.
Athena weaves no passion
to fill my shell-curved ear.

The palace of Minos
breeds not ingenuity but beauty
and obedience, as plentiful
as the phallic columns of white marble.
There I learned to bow low,
with a pleasing, humble countenance.

Something never required of you
--star-crowned of heaven--
casting your fate over kings
and kingdoms; careless
of royal pomp and pageantry,
drunkenly inhaling the gods' exhale.

The cunning gods tempted me to excess;
I was teased to Olympian heights, caught and
cauterized by the Cloud-Gatherer's thunderbolt,
when light-bearing Aether abandoned me.

Oh faithless feathers,
how glorious your flight!
Caressed by Aether's pure air
into weightless being...until
melted wax wings bleed pinions, and
weighted, they spiral the upper sky.

I paid the price for your fame and folly;
consecrated, sacrificed for safe passage
to the Trident of the ocean;
Earth Shaker, Storm Bringer~
rider of azure sea-foam horses...

I cried as I fell, “Father, please save me!”
But you could not hear, your anointed ears
both deaf and dumb to earthly concerns;
so distracted by divine emanations
that Poseidon swallowed me whole,
plunging me to my own fame.

The Sea and land to bear my name;
where you, deep-mouthed, screamed pain,
holding your child's broken body,
ancient oceans trapped in my eyes.

About this poem:
I was trying to see these events with his eyes, Icarus, the son of Daedalus. His father seemed supremely arrogant to me and strangely careless of his son. What is there was so much more to the story...
