I live in Finland and the drinking age is 18. My ex saw his 16 year old niece in a nightclub last night and was laughing when he told me. In the past he has said that he is against under age drinking. He didn't do anything last night but cheered her on when she sang. He says that it was the failure of the bouncers who let her in, and the wait staff that served her. He says it is ok because she wasn't drunk when he saw her and she was acting nicely. He isn't going to say anything to her personally because he says that is the parents job. He is not going to inform the parents because he is sure they know she does this.
I am from the US and I think under age drinking is wrong. Maybe I am over-reacting?

Just a tad. What harm was done ZERO and I reckon your ex would have stepped in something went pear shaped...I use to get plastered at 16 and it didn't do me any harm..
Relax, put your feet up and pour yourself a glass or three of Sarko's...

I would talk to her and let her know that when I was her age i did the same things but that she can count on me if ever she needs my help.
Also I would aske her to have her eyes open and take good care of her. Not to trust all her "friends" and be careful about the places she goes and the drinks she gets.
I called my ex and told him the results of the poll. He says what he is gonna do is talk to her privately. He is going to do all the "if you are in trouble you can come to me" bits, and then he says he is going to tell her if he sees her again in a club, he will give her ten minutes to leave.
Your opinions and comments have been invaluable! Thanks!

Haven't all of us been teenagers and done a few crazy things or having had some crazy moments, which we still remember???As long it is in the spar of the moment, without constant repetitions, is OK,i think.-
