Did you every think about how many times a day someone says to you "Have a nice day".
Christmas shopping season is coming upon us. If you're on a shopping spree you might hear it a dozen or more times in one day so I'm wondering if anyone else is as grumpy about it as I am.
It annoys me when says "have a nice day" and even though I'm annoyed, I'll usually say "you too". If I don't respond, I feel bad. Am I the only one who thinks like that..
Some clerks say it to be friendly, some say it because it's the stores policy and some say it cause it's a habit.
When anyone walks into our business at anytime of the year they are greeted and thanked by the receptionist. Some clients walk past them without responding. The client is always right and as long as they are greeted and treated with respect our business will do well. Grumpy sometimes responds to kindness.

you know it has to be disingenuous when the well wisher knows you are seeing a dentist later in the day.

What I don't like about it is that the person obligates me to say the same to them and if I don't say it, then I feel like crap. So in essence they wish me a nice day but they really aggravated my day.
I would much rather hear "Have a Nice Day" said in a monotone rather than someone forcing their fake chirpy little selves on me and following me around a store because they think I'm going to shoplift.

I agree Lala. Don't you hate it when they do that. I've even told them that I have no plans to shoplift. Their reply will be .... I just want to be available in case you need help. Then I get my dander up and say....I'll call you if I need help and accompany that with a stare down intimidating them to leave me alone..

montecito: Is a "good" day different from a "nice day".
A good day one without problems?
A nice day lucky to get a date, nice weather, somebody smiled at you?

When they start with their "I'm not really following you but I am following you" routine, I start asking them questions that tend to fluster them, such as "Do you feel that the relations are strained between the Dust Bunny Litigation Society and the Free All Dust Club members?"
