I think 8 years is better giving the leadership more time to inforce new regulations and economics. It's not good for a country to go back and forth all the time.

Too long. People empire build when they stay in a certain position for any length of time and, enforcing the idea that it is an appointment from the electorate rather than an affirmation of their Godliness is a great wake up call from time to time.
As well as two years, a caveat of not being able to serve any more than ten years in office of any federal or State/Provincial level would be further affirmation that our leaders remain people rather than in a class of their own.
As or continuity, bureaucrats are always there to carry the torch between party changes so it's not like the row boat is going to stop as the rowers are always on duty.
In the US we have a three tiered system for our folks that we elect to serve in Washington. President 4 years,Congress 2 years and the Senate for 6 years. What I would like to see is "term limits" so they do not become career politicians. The Presidents term is fixed at two terms, but the House and the Senate are not fixed and I think this is a problem as they seem to be more concerned at getting re-elected to the next term then getting the work of the people done.Prior to the FDR Presidency a President could actually serve an unlimited amount of times in office{he served 4 terms and died in office},so presently in lieu of term limits they either get voted out of office or die.

The reason for periodic elections is not because it is "good for the country". It's to make the people think that they have thrown out the rascals, and that things will be different.
Of course all they have really changed is the set of puppets in the store window. Nothing else has really changed at all.
As Carroll Quigley, historian and foremost expert on the CFR and its policies described:
(According to the global elitists who really run US politics)
"...the two parties should be almost identical, so that the American people can ‘throw the rascals out' without leading to any profound or extensive shifts in policy… It should be possible, to replace one party with the other party which will pursue, with new vigor, approximately the same basic policy."
Doesn't that sound like the situation at hand. Obama entered office on the promise of change, specifically stating that he would get out of the Bush wars immediately, and then pursued exactly the same war policies as Bush.
And now it will be time to either "throw the bum out" again or, as I suspect, for the bum to seize dictatorial control in an orchestrated (faked) "revolution" that will do away with even the pretense of a democratic republic.
But of course you realize such a government would never be able to wage war on the world, maintain hundreds of military bases in foreign countries, or support a rogue state like Israel.
I think you prefer Switzerland to be as it is, stable and independent, but you also want the US to be as it is. A hired gun for the mega-rich of the world. (who just happen to be big supporters of Switzerland).
Congress can't do it here. The Constitution has to be amended to do that. If you open that up then any changes are possible. Some will definitely be for the worse.

I agree, longer terms is a better way of ensuring accountability for a politicians actions - or lack thereof - and to judge by their results. The real factor at play here is whether you actually want a stronger government to begin with.
My view on term limits is that rather than 4 years for an elected term for President it should be 6 years instead. That way Our President knows he only has this window and can't be re-elected. Therefore, he or she can concentrate on the duties of President. Common sense.
