I believe the military thinking behind the lighter weapon is based on maneuverability and not necessarily on the "one hit one kill" objective. Also if an enemy has wounded rather than dead they use considerably more resources in the field than just burying their dead. It also has more of a demoralizing affect to hear your comrades screaming in pain.

Yes, but the thinking is complete BS. It is made on the assumption that we are going to refight the European theatre of World War Two: white men fighting other white men in First World armies that actually have medical corps and take care of their wounded. How is that theory working for them in Africa and Afghanistan? How well did that theory work in Vietnam? Charlies does not care (even about his own) and Abduhl and Jamahl sure as Hell do not care either. A soldier needs to know what when he shoots a target it will die. Anything else will get him killed, instead of the enemy.

the tumbling 5.56 round can do some nasty things! Besides if you kill, one is out of the Fight! Wound, and you deprive the enemy of several personnel!
mine is the 7.62x39 which is the ak-47. it is lighter than a m-16 and more reliable. i have one that only takes 5 rounds. i use it for target shooting only and for deer hunting
LoganGerken: iLNG WOULD utilize an UZiCarbine(.306) if iHad to bearARMs to defend Virgins&CHiLDREN
Will look it up. The Australian one has a tungsten spike down the middle of it. Freaking useless. I have seen three of these go into a coconut and it barely slowed him down.

If you like the reliability of the Soviet stuff, have you tried 7.62 x 54 mm in a Druganov?
The calibre dates from the days of the Tsar and is one of the most effective infantry small arms calibres ever devised. It has much more range and hitting power than 7.62 x 39. The Druganov is very popular with Western soldiers in Afghanistan and elsewhere.

I prefer my S&W NighGuard conceal-carry 2.5" barrel .44 magnum hand-cannon.
Carl96190: How do you get enough of a powder burn in that tiny barrel to give the round the required velocity?
would you like to meet my little friend?! I appreciate what you are saying but the bullets do leave the muzzle in a hurry, and a flash. They make a very clean impression in paper at 50' and bowling pins definitely can not be reused after being hit at 25' by the .44 magnum round from this pistole. Surprisingly, as you may have guessed, their is not much felt recoil but they will produce a lot of muzzle lift!
well mine is 5.56 , ammo's cheap with less noise . You do have to get close for a deadly shot . I don't stalk , just walk up close when the deer or pigs are looking the other way . With eight consecutive rounds over 12 months I nailed six red deer , one pig and a dog .All mature animals . Not one got up and ran away . On the heavy pigs I use the AP round when time allows , it gets in and how . A file across the nose of the ball round helps , just enough to show the hollow .
