People who understand history will recognise this proposed sale of territory for what it is: a death rattle of a bankrupt and dying nation. The USA bought Alaska from the Russians, when the Russians were in dire financial trouble. The USA bought a big chunk of the south from the French when France was in dire financial trouble. Now the USA has been gutted of its capacity to create wealth through manufacturing industry, is becoming a welfare state and is being over-run by illegals from south of the border . . . and it is trying to sell Alaska. Does not take a PhD in history, political science, or economics to work out what that means.

If the US is selling Alaska which I do not believe as I have heard nothing.
Did you hear anything or have you fallen into the rumor pit?

Only what I have read in the media, but given that US government debt is unpayable and the currency is close to collapse, it is entirely believeable that such a sale would be contemplated. The saddest thing is, the entire debt is unnecessary and illegal anyway and the money will be pissed away on recurrent expenditure by providing bread and circuses for the welfare set.

Or, since nobody can afford to buy it and, anybody that could such as China, has problems of their own and certainly doesn't have the projection power to administrate it, I doubt then entire premise entirely.
Say, I'm broke, wanna buy Mars from me? Has just as much believability

Speaking of China, what if the Chinese decide to swap their US treasury bonds for land? To send the USA back to the stone age all that the Chinese have to do is dump what they are holding in US treasury bonds. A debt for equity swap might be the only way out for the USA to avoid collapse at some point in the future, at least in the short term.

Didn't know that was in the agreement. Of course, that is part and parcel of the repayment schedule or, does that make the debt null and void?

That would be most beneficial to China and the world wouldn't it? To dump it all and make all the hard earned money they lent out worthless while sending the entire planet into a depression that would make the thirties look like good times.
I can see the Chinese now, just frothing at the bit to make all the money they are owed worthless and non collectable.
Say, are you a financial adviser for Obama by any chance?

But to be straight with the OP from a moment.
Why would the US want to sell Alaska...a energy producing state to anyone. The oil production and pipelines have money going into the pockets of all Alaskans. They are self suffiencent when it comes to energy. They produce more than then need.

i just hope that u at least live another 50+ years so that you get to see that the USA is 'selling' not only one rich state but many many more other rich states. Oh...i have some more 'good' news for you conrad. you may also be very lucky to see another 'civil' war being fought between the north and the south as many conservatives in the US believe that a civil war with the 'liberal' is long overdue.

I am going to post this little comment just for the hell of it. My understanding when I was a wee lad, was that USA bought Alaska simply to guard the back door from the threat of USSR possible future military attack. Considering they were knocking on the back door of Canada. Propaganda??? Just a thought.

The United States bought Alaska in 1867 from Russia in the Alaska Purchase.
There were another 50 years until the USSR. (1917)
Russia sold Alaska thinking it was just another massive Siberia. They already had one of those. Did not need a second. So when the US offer to to buy it came...they said yes.
Soon after the US bought Alaska......gold was found in them there hills and mountains....and the Alaskan Gold Rush was on.
At this point this get really interesting. Russia sent a group back to Alaska and now the US....to see if things could be "renogiatated". At which point, Washington smiled and said no.
In the TV Sitcom....Wild Wild West....Jim West and faithful Artemus Gordon...were often seen facing off with this villianous Russia group sent back to the US to reclaim Alaska for Russia. And the real Cold War began on TV on Sept 17, 1965 when the sitcom began......
