I think that if she shows the maturity to discuss the option of going on the pill,well then by consenting,you are showing a lot of trust and faith in her,and she will recognise that.And we all remember what is was like being a teenager,the more somebody tells you not to do something,the more determined you are to do it!!!Plus there may be peer pressure,maybe her friends are taking it,or saying that they are anyway...
And my own daughter is 13 this year....cant wait for this convo to come up!!

I don't have a 13 year old daughter, but if I did, I WOULD consent. These kids are having kids! But I would strongly advise her that this does not protect her from STD'S!

Worked as a teacher in secondary schools (11 to 16 yr olds) and some 13 year old (and younger) girls are more like 16 going on 20 physically including all the hormonal changes and libido. Same for some of the boys.
On the other hand, other teens are about to leave school and still presenting the pysical appearance of a 12 year old (ish) without any hormonal changes or libido.
The emotional maturity might say "no", but the body says "yes"!!

Great post! Times are changing but .. nobody hiring children of this age to work, they still consider them to be just a children, Who have to learn Life first and get ready for that life.

I agree with you!!
Apart from one bit ... they wouldn´t quite be preventing AIDS. They would be preventing HIV which although still incurable is now "containable" and doesn´t turn into AIDS.
AIDS however, is what can happen after someone has become infected with HIV and if it remains untreated, their immune system becomes depleted to such an extend that their body becomes raked with infections of all types, sometimes to the point of losing their life.
I´m not negating your message just the accuracy of the name AIDS in the context you use it. In other words, nobody can "catch" AIDS from someone else, they can however "catch" HIV.

I gave my consent to my 13yr old.... I don't want to be a grandmother at 33.... They going to experiment regardless what we say as parents..

Be the parent, NOT your kids best friend... Yeah, that is how it should be. But probably it is now easier said than done because children know they will have no consequences for not obeying their parents. That is a sad consequence from these games with individual liberties gone too far. Children don't know what they are doing at 13 and can't be allowed to do as they please. But as I said, it is easier said than done.

but i don't think i'm different than most teachers now.
(i know there are some exceptions..but that's the minority..and there's 'duds' in every profession...lol)
things have really changed since you, and even longer ago, i, lol... were students in the public school system...
i think it's much harder now for youth.
they have challenges we never even dreamed of.
