Tyson is nowhere near the boxer Ali was in his prime. Tyson is a slugger, Ali was had no weak points whatsoever. Probable the closest any boxer ever to come to athletic perfection and an extraordinary Man as well.
A poll on the greatest boxers off all time dominated largely by recent boxers! Do you want to research this a bit and then repost? (hint: how about considering boxers like John Sullivan and those of his era?)

Ali the Man
i think ali was the greatest heavy weight off all time but he often got it wrong to. i mean losing to leon sphinxs, a man who only had 6 professional fights before they met
tyson mightn't have had the boxing skill that ali had but he was very effective at what he did which was knock people out. the only thing that could beat mike tyson was mike tyson and i think that was plain enough to see
Me Da.. he set up Drimnagh Boxing Club waaaay back in the day...but I have to give a special mention to Eddie Carruth...a gentleman & a scholar funnily enough!
Oh & Kiero, Marciano is with a 'c'!! Sorry, you know I'm RUTHLESS with spelling mistakes hun!!

Tyson V. Ali, I hear the have computer programmes to test these scenarios, dunno how good they are though, Tyson fast and powerful, If he landed a few on Ali he would take him out, Ali on the other hand so fast could possibly dodge anything Tyson could throw at him. Mind you you could be right, I am biased towards Ali, Tyson is a hard guy to like!
Rocky Marciano isn't been given enough credit on this thread. Fighters should be judged on their career and the man is the only boxer to have ever retired undefeated. Ali was awesome BUT his status is definitely given weight by his showmanship & life outside of the ring, his Biography by Thomas Hauser is the best book I've ever read, defo read it if you have the oppurtunity! After all of that I still went for Ali.
big_fluffy_poppa: I was lucky enuff to find a vid of Ali and Tyson meeting on an american chat show, Ali admitted Tyson was much much better than him.. Nuff said!
? I think Ali was being diplomatic - bearing in mind he nullified the awesome power of Foreman by out thinking him, I believe Tyson would suffer the same consequences.

I agree, after all boxing is a skill not a flailing match
I appreciate what you say about character, but we do make opinions and coupled them with the talent, otherwise we maigh as well say "...well he/she was a great in their sport and were murders, but they were great at their sport..." so you see my point.
We could break up the thread into which era did they box, which weight, and which country they boxed in etc. I know i pushed the boundary for two, however on reflection sugar ray is my pick, as he was around during my childhood and hes the one i can remember.

P.s. no one likes a finger wagger hahaha.
nobody likes a finger pointer either
well i am thinking, and this is only my opinion sir that you have based a lot of your opinion on the character, have read what other people have written and i think some of it has to do with the character, meaning emotion was also involved not just skill

hahaha yep opinion normally is based on some emotion, but isnt that a point. Hey i was only expressing an opinion and well yeah you are right people base a lot of our opinion on our own bias, experience etc skill alone doesnt make a great boxer, character plays a significant part as well (of which comes through in their respective craft in the ring) thanks for the pat on the head, needed that
yea..why isn't sugar ray on the list..would have voted for him...Used to date a boxer as a teen, was my first real boy friend, lasted a whole 4 months..lol...
