Myself, I believe that some of it has historical basis and, the teachings within it are conductive to the natural soul of man so, at the very least think it's a good thing.

I believe whether KJV or any other version, there is much to be said for the educational value of such works. There are texts that prove to be very valid exercises in how to treat our fellow 'man' and conduct our lives in a charitable fashion.
Told in a story kinda way, as with a lot of publications, it maintains the interest and the 'entertainment' element which, in turn, allows us to learn more profitably. However, there are those that choose to take the 'stories' literally and there the trouble begins.......
Being able to interpret what is being relayed is the whole key to the recipient but, alas, those with little perspective as to what the book is truly about may be likely to use the wording as an excuse for dictatorial means, rigidity, or even less savoury means.
Me personally, I believe in exercising compassion, consideration and accommodating others and their beliefs but.......
Eve being formed from Adam's rib? C'mon..... read between the lines - as one is meant to!

You understand the value of the KJB in it's teachings to provide a glimpse into what is the sould of man in this day and age of moral enlightenment however, at that time when it was written, things were just a step above tribal where strangers were beaten and robbed and people did not provide for those not so fortunate thus, something akin to the ten commandments yet implemented in a more personal way was provided. I believe it is coupled with just enough historical matter to be able to add working legitimacy to it's overall teachings when taken into the context of the times and next few centuries.
As for the portion in bold, that is not part of it as that's the Old Testament who's word was replaced by the New.
I'll say read the Bible in its original written version Greek,so you have no doubt, if its translation is accurate or not.Its proven,no translation is accurate 100% .-

So if I run there tomorrow and buy it, and later he goes bankrupt, even though I bought it off him I'm going to have the Greek government all over me to give it and the Elgin Marbles back right?
Think I'd rather just steal my KJV of of the HoJo drawer thanks.

Old thread but just the same I agree. People have to be able to read between the lines and have a certain sensibility about them to read any of these kinds of books. Too often things are taken too literally and exploited for the very things that often is just the opposite of what the book may endorse or try to teach.
