yep, they eat fish...hehehe
I was watching Valerie Taylor vid clips last night.. Her partner Rod was chomped many years ago, but lived, and then decided to spend a great portion of his life getting to know the great whites.. Valerie swims with sharks, and the two of them have observed sharks.
AS for catching them for food, yes, we catch them , most fish and chip shops sell 'butterfish' which is shark.
I bought my kids a boat when they were teenagers, and they got thrilled by catching the odd shark..

Sharks have their place in the ocean -
I think bull-sharks are an exception ,they are knows to enter in to rivers ( I think I remember some horrified pictures from India ,women have been mutilated while they were in fresh water)

But yes they have their place ,
Yes, those sharks can live in rivers and lakes.
The ocean is for fishes, land for us. Sharks are no cute but they have the right to live in their element.
In Australia some people want to kill sharks to protect surfers and swimmers. I don't think it could be possible, especially in the seas around Australia, where live a lot of dangerous creatures.
Rubicon76: Man should avoid reducing the numbers of keystone species. They serve a very specific purpose in the ecosystem.
If they serve a specific purpose, please, tell what is that purpose (except meet to eat )Bear in mind the sharks killing humans, therefore, they diserve to be treated the same...Use them as a food n some of them keep in captivity n thow the keys !

Do you remember the crocodile hunter?
I had a friend from New Orleans who told me that the cheapest meal ( that was quite a few years ago ) was a crocodile or alligator sandwich ...
Although I would love to have cowboy booths made from crocodile leather ,I somehow don`t see that neither sharks , crocodiles or any other wild animal should be killed just for fun or to be shown as a trophy

Ok so what sharks kill about 5 people a year, we have to kill them all? Hippos kill 2900 people a year they are the most dangerous animals on the world, nothing hm. Dogs in the US alone kill 30 people a year, oh they are just nice puppies.
Boban1: I don`t know what have those two guys, been expecting... Guys, in the future, if you see anything bigger than a poodle , Ruuuuuuuuuuuuuuuun!!!
Yeah Boban, watching that video remind me of the deepth of water on the one side of Cozumel that is less populated. My ex Wife and I went there and because of the storm on the "diving" side,,we went to that other one to lay in the sun and maybe just get in the shallow water to keep cool..we ended up going out a long way and it was still so shallow maybe 8- 14 feet and I got that gut feeling. I said lets go back..and while we were back on the sand laying in the sun I thought about a restaurant that had those sharks in a shallow water with really no guard,,just in the water. But if they would have been out there so far we would have been unnoticed for some time I bet. Yeah those Bull Sharks are fresh Water as well. I am happy if I never dive with sharks...they can do what they wish ,,,,like they did to the back of that guy that was the professional. But some people like the thrill.. oh well.. ;-}

Nikogas: I dont want to swim with the Hipo either!! That is like a big huge water bull!! omg! but I don't know really the endangered shark list,,is there??
Yes there is one, and the great white shark is on the list of endangered species.
Sharks should be left alone, they might not be the most popular of animals but, they are an integral part of the ecosystem.
We as humans should respect the fact that whenever we go into the ocean we entering their domain and should remember that, a shark attacks to feed and it is a natural instinct that will never change.
Hunting sharks because they attacked someone in their domain is quite frankly ridiculous.

they have Role to play in the Eco-System! The Bahamas has totally outlawed Sharkfishing! Many of the Shark-Species are on the Brink of extinction, while we don't even know enough about them! They are splendid Creatures! Observed them many times in real Life during my stay in the Westindies!
Sharks are endangered world wide...Canada has just banned the sale of any type of shark-fin products. They are an intregal part of the eco system and should be respected as such...

Ok, but what about killing them by the pleasure of eating?
When I was a young man who salt water fished (and ate what I caught) we viewed those intentionally fishing for shark as very inept fishermen who lacked even the most basic of skills to succesfully fish for the 100s of other types of fish found in the Long Island Sound area from flounder to Blues and even an occasional swordfish. Even flounder fishing (one of the easiest salt water species to catch) required more skill than throwing out a gang hook with a hunk of meet on it attached to a cable. Likewise we never understood the pride those guys would display at killing some poor sand or nurse shark versus taking 20 large Blues.
Regarding the video, any experienced surf fisherman knows what happened there is a real possibility if you allow the sharks to get between you and the shore. More than once I lost or just walked away from the laundry bag full of my catch rather than become part of the meal. I do know of unwary fishermen who suffered exactly the same fate as the shark 'expert' (who now perhaps has a little more expertise) as well as one or two ignorant swimmers who suffered similar fates after deciding flats were more fun as swim areas 'no swimming' signs or not.
If we would breed them in captivity as we do with chickens or some fresh water fish,it would make sense, or if the oceans and seas would be much richer with sharks, it would make sense to hunt them for food ,but not to the point of extinction .

Ok, but only a few species of sharks are in danger.

Hi Guzman It's not that bad here really! we have about 5 or 6 fatal shark attacks in a good year here, compare that to the millions of people that swim in the oceans around Australia, then You'll see that the risk is pretty small, Humans eat far more sharks here though! As for crocodiles they only eat European backpackers.
