Mentally disabled - NO, never. I don't want to be shot to death or strangled by someone schizophrenic. I can't deal with acts of people who are severely bipolar either. You never know when something gets triggered.
Physically disabled - maybe, it will depend on the type of disability and the severity and his personality.
One of my former collagues - physically disabled, in a wheelchair, drives a car, got married and had a child, so ...

How do you define someone who is mentally, or physically disabled?
Would those definitions include dyslexia, or dyspraxia? A missing finger, or two? Someone who's myopic?
How does one decide in advance, who one might be attracted to, or compatible with, based on such loose terminology unless one is prejudiced in making decisions?
I really don't like the word 'disabled" as I find it a misnomer and subject to societal trends. Dyslexic people are very often artistic, but no one says you're disabled if you can't draw. Albert Einstein was dyslexic, dyspraxic and probably Aspergic; he didn't speak until he was 5 years old and a doctor told his mother he would never amount to much. Steven Hawking doesn't seem to have held back all that much.
I'd rather view that people have different abilities and that adversity can often inspire other avenues of ability.
I would have a relationship with someone I'm attracted to, not just physically, but the whole person. How can I decide that in advance?

If the disability would prevent her from swimming, walking up a mountain or from holding an intelligent conversation then I would not date them.
It's all relative to their capacity to function. A girl with a prosthetic limb I could go out with, it would take some getting my head around but I think I'd get there, yet a fat girl I would not date because in many cases fat people are more disabled than those we actually class as disabled - plus it's often their own fault.
granuaile: GG I am so desperate I would consider anything,
Brain dead might be the best option for what I had in mind..
EASY, that might lead to another kind of dead, lol.
Dead in bed is really dead, so I am told, but I hear they make a pill for that dead. But as for disabled, how do we as people classify it, because some that we call disabled are not, they can be presidents, or anything they want. It is up to the individual as to what they are.
I chose "normal" as it's the closest choice desireable to the options offered however; I do not believe their are ANY "normal" people. I can not define "normal" and, I also know thee are ALOT of not normal people walking amoung the "mainstreamed" For me, love remains "In the Eye of the Beholder". I have a friend who is blind, and I love him (unknowing to himself). I would definitly date, marry him. I keep it to myself as he is already married. Completely independant! So, my bottom line is, it would depend on the characteristics and the qualites of "whoeer I meet", and how they feel about mine likewise, it is there that great chemistry begins!

You fall for who you fall for ... Ive dated a guy who was physically disabled and it was not his disability that broke us up ... It depends on the person and the disability. If it was someone with special needs or mentally disabled ... I wouldnt date them cos most are vulnerable and the ones that arent ... what would I have in common with someone with say the mental age or capasity of a 6yr old or even a teen.

OK now that is just wrong not every person with a mental disability is a crazy plus most of the time people know their triggers and don't get set off so easily any more. Depression is a mental disability would you not date that?
I can't believe what I am reading and only proves my reason for starting this poll that people who are disabled are still put in the OH CRAP THEY WILL HURT ME basket.
Not everyone who is disabled are going to hurt you. What if you got an brain injury or some other acquired disability tomorrow just think for a second would your friends/family be by your side though the recovery?

I am handicapped myself, so I know what it's like to be discriminated against. I have a friend who is blind, yet she is able to get around town and take care of herself, her home, and her pets. She's an internationally-known author, and runs an animal sanctuary in, of all places, New York. Handicapped people need love, too.

Depression is an illness. It is a normal reaction to certain life events. It can be disabling, but it is not a disability.

True but it is still classed by many people as disabling when it gets to the extreme end of the spectrum because it prevents you from doing every day tasks.
