Actually, solid water has been detected on both the moon & mars.
Europa, one of Jupiters many moons is believed to have slushy ice or liquid water beneath it's icy surface. There's, evidently, quite a bit of water in our galaxy & quite probably as well most other galaxies.
Comets are giant dirty ice balls & thought to be one of the sources for water on this planet in it's early millenia.
Hydrogen is beleived to be the most abundant element in the universe.
Now it just takes a little O to make water with all that abundance of H

When you really think about it, you don't want to go to another planet in the first group. The colonials all got killed, died of hunger and sickness, burned each other as witches, and all kinds of horrible things. Then there were the Conquistadores from Spain looting South America for gold and killing anyone who pissed them off.

No. I probably wouldn't like to go in the first group, but I imagine it like the pioneers of the U.S. colonization but without Native Americans.
It is difficult to find a habitable planet but much harder to find "people" there. And I would not worry so much about "them" but not to be their food

A habitable planet would likely already have a dominant intelligent species similar to us in residence.
Would you really want to become the villain in an interplanetary war of conquest?
Terraforming a planet that had potential would be a more ethical option, but it would take generations.
First we have to learn how to travel at warp. Unless we can go faster than light space travel is impractical. For those who have not seent it, the movie Event Horizon explains the theoretical physics of faster-than-light travel in a way that the layman can understand.

I think people are very concerned about the rising water level of the sea to bring more to the earth, but if one of those comets crashed into Mars we could use those red wasteland.

Exactly! Kinda like having head problems & thinking that new scenery/change of vista(not point of view) will make all the probs go away! Like F'ing up in Kansas & thinking moving to New Mexico will solve everything.
