GUZMAN1: I mean leave this planet ALIVE
Well if the planet & the rest of the inhabitants in this thin skinned biosphere that we're slaughtering with our greed, hatred & in general ignorance are lucky, yes we will!

Actually, solid water has been detected on both the moon & mars. Europa, one of Jupiters many moons is believed to have slushy ice or liquid water beneath it's icy surface. There's, evidently, quite a bit of water in our galaxy & quite probably as well most other galaxies. Comets are giant dirty ice balls & thought to be one of the sources for water on this planet in it's early millenia.
Hydrogen is beleived to be the most abundant element in the universe. Now it just takes a little O to make water with all that abundance of H

minnplayboy: we need two things air and water which has not been found on the moon or mars yet but what will we do when the earth gets over populated?
When you really think about it, you don't want to go to another planet in the first group. The colonials all got killed, died of hunger and sickness, burned each other as witches, and all kinds of horrible things. Then there were the Conquistadores from Spain looting South America for gold and killing anyone who pissed them off.

No. I probably wouldn't like to go in the first group, but I imagine it like the pioneers of the U.S. colonization but without Native Americans.
It is difficult to find a habitable planet but much harder to find "people" there. And I would not worry so much about "them" but not to be their food

A habitable planet would likely already have a dominant intelligent species similar to us in residence. Would you really want to become the villain in an interplanetary war of conquest? Terraforming a planet that had potential would be a more ethical option, but it would take generations. First we have to learn how to travel at warp. Unless we can go faster than light space travel is impractical. For those who have not seent it, the movie Event Horizon explains the theoretical physics of faster-than-light travel in a way that the layman can understand.

I think people are very concerned about the rising water level of the sea to bring more to the earth, but if one of those comets crashed into Mars we could use those red wasteland.

Is that anything like being a mean-spirited git to our partners and when things become untenable through our own making, or look like too much hard work and sharing, we go off and find a glossier, fresher looking model without changing our attitude and start trashing everything all over again?

My, you're not only pretty but smart too!( Not that there was ever even a question of doubt!)
Exactly! Kinda like having head problems & thinking that new scenery/change of vista(not point of view) will make all the probs go away! Like F'ing up in Kansas & thinking moving to New Mexico will solve everything.
I remember this one well! Some things have a more impact in "black and white tv" funny how when translating a simple word can dramatically change everything.

Life forms on other planets might be plants, animals or bacteria. I would be more worried about the other humans who came on the ship with me, and also what havoc our germs would wreak on the planet.

I salute your reasoning! SHANTI
That's not to say that novel stimulation can't inspire alternative thought pathways.
Leaving the planet will cause lots of problems on here, there are already loads of comments about members looking at profiles on a different continent, imagine if you were in a different galaxy
