I'm in the same boat.. looking. Forget Europe. Too expensive and you won't get a residency permit. I kinda like Sarajevo and Honolulu. Dom Rep has a lot of political problems (I know a guy who owns a business there). Can't speak for or against south america, but I'd probably pick Chile or Argentina. As you get older, you need to think about medical care and the quality of service.

Healthcare is Very affordable, so is housing and the price of gas is like $1.40 per gallon and they use U.S. currency!

Anywhere where Jono is would be a nice place to be. If it's good enough for Jono, it's good enough for me. Failing that, many Americans are retiring in Belize. They speak English, and I suspect they use U.S. dollars as well.

For me I plan on retiring, and living my spring and summer in Scotland, my winters in Miami, USA and a few months here and there in Canada.

now I just need to find some wonderful sane and lovely man from Scotland to share the fun of retirement with me....

My friend here in Miami just checked out Costa Rica - how's your spanish?

New Zealand is nice except you have to be accepted by the country and they are sticklers for kicking you out if you over stay your welcome.

I have family in Australia and I hear it is lovely to live there.

I don't know anything about Panama. It's a great thing to be able to work all our lives and be able to retire.....

My Spanish is virtually non-existent but I think I could pick it up fairly easily. Have a sister-in-law from South America who speaks very little English, but we get along just great after a few glasses of wine. laugh

I've studied New Zealand more than the others and would definitely head there were it not so far. It's gorgeous and the people are so fun and friendly. I love it.

Australia has always been attractive to me, but I didn't get a chance to visit when I wasin NZ. Ran out of time. crying

My sister moved there for 10 years - always asked me to visit - never could afford it - too busy at work - then she moved back to Canada -now I can afford it - and I have the time..... doh

When I retire I will have no rules as to where I can stay - hopefully just take my good manners with me -

I just spent the weekend on Marco Island - now that is a retirement heaven.

Ewwww! Did you happen to tour around Fiddler's Creek? That was one of my biggest clients when I was in Naples, but it was just getting started and had a 20-year build-out. I assume it's well underway now. dunno

Building a villa will cost you,Greek or non Greek.Buying a traditional house,inside the more than 4 hundred years old traditional village,it costs much less.Depending in the anount of money,you would liked to spend.-
