with Romney in charge the only achievement would be destroying all sources of alternative energy sources, but he would never publicly declare that as it is part of his hidden policy, same thing as his hidden unpaid income taxes, but sure this country needs a third party, because the last two options are already happening 10 years ago in china and Europe good thread
I hate to say it Romney is a " joke " , he is not interested in leading your country! He just wants to have the title " president" for the power he so wants... he says words to get your vote but his actions will be the opposite.....

Almost as bad as the bogus promises Obama made and never kept.

'Hidden policy?' And how did you come to be privy to this?

Genetic engineering in Humans - Gene therapy and nanotech medicine; Cures for certain cancers, some diabetes, possibly alzheimer's & HIV and a slight chance of a cure for baldness(live it up slapheads).
Eugenics in IVF - the removal of inheritable disability & disease.
A.I and the continued automation of industry; mass redundancies in retail & service industries leading to urban de-population. Today's office workers will be tomorrow's farmers & land-labourers after we ban fertilizers and GM crops for being inferior, obsolete and unnecessary with so such unemployment around - Japan is already setting the trend here, with over 200,000 previous office-workers abandoning the city and returning to pastoral lives and land-labour.
Expansion of UCG to meet energy demands, at least in this country.
And a whole range of other developments with good & bad points.
Would have been better if it was not a poll though. A poll limits the choices to whatever the OP could imagine and when talking about the future that would be confining for most people outside of Science Fiction writers.

Yabut Oobs...the only reason I usually vote on a poll is to mess with the Op
I agree that if Romney is elected, alternative energy will go nowhere. The only ones who might pursue it are privately held companies. There are some in PA that I know of who have ongoing deals with Germany to restructure their energy use. We definitely need a third party, but I will be elected Queen of Sheeba before that happens.
I read an article that there are now tests underway to explore travel faster than light. Apparently some computations were changed and it now looks like a real possibility. I am very excited about that.
Robotic servants is already quite advanced, so that's a possibility. I think the time it takes to perfect that will depend on the projections for the marketability of the products.
Isn't Mars vs Moon already up for discussion for some sort of a station?
Long story short, I don't think we will see anything in the next 10 years only because the worldwide focus is on managing money and power shifts. Only if some private companies or universities decide to pursue those issues can we hope to move on them.
None of the above. Time travel (like faster-than-light space travel) would probably require a cold fusion energy source. Unless there is a breakthrough somewhere, that is not likely within the next decade. A manned landing on Mars would take more than 10 years to plan and execute. Given the present state of the US and general world economy, do not hold your breath waiting for a Mars mission. An alternative to gasoline will not happen until the last barrel of oil has been pumped. The oil companies will not allow it. Guess who holds a controlling interest in the battery technology that would make an electric car viable, but will not allow the public access to the technology? Look up a documentary called Who killed the electric car on YouTube. Robotic servants are already here, if you are referring to the likes of the robots on the assumbly line at Honda. If you are referring to artificial intelligence that would give us independent cybernetic life forms, then not in our lifetimes.

Maybe not within your lifetime, Carl. They already have artificial intelligence on par with a mouse, develop A.I to the level of the chimpanzee and they'd be on track to replace 80% of the jobs in this world.
As for FTL & space exploration - these are a road to nowhere, and now that we're already in space a mission to Mars is just difficult & expensive rather than scientifically groundbreaking & rewarding.
Forget about space, the obsession is a hangover from an old generation with utopian visions of a hippy/star-trek style future for the Human race. The new vision for the future is "coming back down to Earth", in ethics, politics, science etc.. in every way possible we're now moving into a grounded age of realism, and away from the space-age, ethical, economic and political fantasies of the 1960's youth.
I think within 10 years, we will get the spray-on solar energy. The military is using it already, so that soldiers don't have to carry batteries. They can literally spray this stuff on a rock and charge up. Brilliant stuff.

Thats awesome! Now if they would expand that concept and apply it to more civilian/commercial areas. It could have incredible applications!
