I have never been diagnosed with cancer, but it would entirely depend upon the type of cancer, my responsibilities at the time and I imagine my view how to tackle the illness may well change over time.
I don't think its something you can really answer without being in the situation and knowing the details.
I have observed, those with a positive attitude, or even a dismissive one appear to fare better in terms of recovery. I have known a couple of people who decided they didn't have a window for dying and successfully beat it.
I'm certainly not afraid of death, but I would be damned annoyed at leaving those who I have a responsibility towards. I think my initial reaction would be to fight, but I'd always leave myself the option for a dignified death on my own terms if it came to it.
Liquidate my assets, choose a friend and travel the world. I saw what my father went through. His last year was miserable with the experimental treatments.

Like any disease cancer comes in many forms and some are treatable and don't mean a death sentence.
I assume I would go through all the emotions like I was on a roller coaster ride - however, I have not been diagnosed -
My mother was and died in 2000 - I am glad she did not get depressed and stop talking - as well she prepared for all her children so that the only thing left to do at her funeral was grieve -

Thats right a lot are treatable ,I had cancer well a benign form of it but never the less cancer and had a lot of operations,I learnt a lot about people in hospital under stress there are the ones who care about people and the ones who don't I came out of there and my friend dident and I am young and so was he,live every day to the best you can.
My family has always been a very private family. If I had cancer, I would tend to keep it to myself and not tell anyone, especially those outside my church. If I felt the need, I might put in a prayer request at my church's online system. Otherwise, no one would ever know I had cancer. That's a reflection of my personality and my nature. I've always hated being a burden to anyone.

Human life is important in all it's variations. Celebrate your life with every breath. Life threatening stress causes people to do all kinds of lovely and sometimes whack-a-do stuff.

a sad and odd thing - my best friend's mother - never sick a day in her life - she gets to the ripe age of 80 or so and goes to the local Canadian clinic to get a check up - she contracts TB while there and gets very sick.....
Hospitals have a lot of sick people in it - I think if you are healthy avoid them.

People put to much of their care in other people ie the hospital staff, for instance make sure they have washed their hands, check on the medicine is it haveing an over effect and if so tell them and if a person dosent like something tell them ,most people just accept the treatment doctor knows best,I had one male nurse wanting to change my bandages with a toilet in the room,I think what helped me was I studied veterinery,I had a doctor who performed outdated surgery and would hear nothing of it being wrong,a lot is up to the patient.

When my uncle passed away, he did not even resemble a human being. He had gone through so much chemo and radiation and whatever else. I asked a friend how God could have someone go through such an ordeal. He answered, "God did not do that. Humans did. They attempted to extend a life that He had called for a long time before. Hmmmm....a thought. On the other hand, my sister was extremely proactive when she was diagnosed with breast cancer. She chose to have a bilateral mastectomy and aggressive chemo. She is now in remission and her personality and life has changed tremendously. The cancer changed her to a more loving, patient, giving, and understanding person. Her husband also changed and we saw a side of him we would never have seen. He stayed by her side, complete devotion. I suppose I would follow her lead and deal with it the same way, praying I would have the same strength she exhibited.
i had a skin cancer on my shoulder which would have killed me if it was not attended to at the time, my dad died of cancer i moved back home to help out,,its a very hard thing to watch close up a loved one go through that, he never complained except he said to me it a bit unfair to get it now six months before his retirement age same cancer that the man from the jaws movie got roy ( shiender ) you know who i mean,,the cop, no cure 2-4 years rare at the time treated now the same as leukaemia bone marrow disease he they found out after he snapped a rib lifting something, then a work mate who thought it sad my dad died so young discovered he was riddled with cancer in his lungs the bones in his leg then in his brain six months he lasted,,,then the man who was employed to replace him got bladder cancer, one year he lasted bad

I have had cancer. Breast cancer.... twice!
Prepare for the funeral? No way....... that never even occurred to me. Not an option. Yes, I did follow doctor's instructions, never had enough time to think about not doing so. But I am testament to medical science coming on leaps and bounds on a daily basis, pretty much. It was an ordeal but I owe a great debt to those responsible for saving my life.

You're treading into very sensitive territory. (It's difficult to talk about trying to be courageous and still be genuinely courageous. It's just something you do).
Frist of all I would cry, then I would perpare myself for death, fool a life insurance company for 1 mil to leave to friends and family and live life even harder than I do now...I haven't been diagnosed with cancer yet, but because I smoke I know the risk is higher than someone who dosen't..so in a way..I'm perpared for it. Oh yes if theres one thing I hate, I would have to say its terminal sicknesses, I've seen the results of cancer and its not a pretty sight, I would like someone to put a pillow on my face and hold it there if it ever happened to me.

What do you think? Have you ever been diagnosed cancer?[Yes I've been diagnoSed with breast cancer Oct'11, had chemo Jan'12 - Apr'12, full mastectomy May'12! Am still alive!!]
I was diagnosed 17 years ago with a rare form of endometrial cancer. First reaction of course was total shock, then a few tears. Had a radical hysterectomy, which means they had to take a little more than a normal hysterectomy. Also did a lumpectomy on right breast at the same time. Have now been cancer free for all these years and pray it continues that way.
Godsgift: I'm told that 85% of cancers are treatable. I don't know how true this is but it certainly takes the sting out of it.
Yeah, but that does not necessarily mean they will be cured. I would live on pizza, booze and candy the whole time. That way, if it killed me, I would die happy.
Find peace, find the joy of life even with the sadness of the concern. Life is not for the faint hearted. Find a good friend and dance. What would I do? try to heal of course but also let love in and let it all back out, Be appreciative for all of my life and those around me. But this I believe we should do anyway. I say find your joyful place as best you can.
One of my relatives came out of the bedroom and wobbled all over he hallway. He was diagnosed with cancer in December, and died in February. Having been in the Navy, he was given full honors at the Tahoma National Cemetery in Maple Valley, Washington.
We also had a family friend that was dying of cancer, and before she died, she lovingly took the time to teach her family how to survive without her. Such a wonderful woman, too.
If the cancer (or any other disease) was terminal, I would make a to-do list of people without whom the world would be a better place and then set to work. What would be the worst that could happen? I might be killed, or sentenced to life in prison.
