Not affect me much if it does not create economic problems.
I belong to the large minority who speaks preferably Spanish, and that's the only reason I would change my opinion. But for years the Catalan is considered something like the first official language, and Spanish politicians have done nothing to change that, so the independence will mean nothing in my daily life.
Emotional reasons I care little, I was born in Spain so I´ll do not lose my nationality.
Human chain of hundreds of thousands catalans for independence.
In Madrid, the catalan delegation has been attacked in revenge by members of Falange (The Phalanx), the extreme right party of the dictatorship of General Franco, which is still legal in Spain.

I live in the south of Spain and independence is not wanted or supported in general.I think most people have accepted that it will happen but they certainly don't like it.
It's rather sad for me as a Brit in Spain for many years that there is such a division.

Imagine the people who lives in Catalonia and disagree with independence, like me.
As a visitor to your lovely country,i wouldnt like to see it happen.I think Spain needs to pull together in these difflecult times, and not add any more problems to an already troubled nation.

if catalans want it,why not? if Andorra with its only 85 tousand people is independent ,then why catalonia with its 7 and half million shouldnt be independent? I always say.Any nation over a million population deserves its own independent republic. So they got my support. But where Barcelona FC will play then? They ll lose their competition with strong spanish teams in la liga.

Good Morning Guzman.
The history of the Catalan region is very complex, and the people are extremely proud of their roots, as are the Basques.
The region is well advanced economically compared to the rest of Spain,so I would imagine that the Spanish Government would fight to keep the region under it's umbrella.
Barcelona as the capitol of the region,it's port which attracts huge income from visiting cruise liners, and the beaches of the Costa Brava, another magnet for tourism, are another good reason to hold on to what would appear to be the jewel in the crown of Spain's crumbling economy.
In my humble opinion I think that it would be a shame to cut a swathe into Spain as a country, but one has to consider the people of the region and their own desires.
They certainly are capable of self government that's for sure.

After so much blood wasted in the civil war of Spain; what for to continue with the “independence” of some regions, not only Catalonia but the Basque region as well.
To my understanding is that those regions have their own flag and they use their own language as the first, being Spanish the "second"-
Why would those regions want independence from Spain in this time?
Because their leftist tendency? Because they do not want a monarchy? Because economics?
Catalonia's government has called a referendum on leaving Spain for today.
The Spanish Government has rejected the vote as illegal and the courts have ordered a halt. But there is a campaign for disobeying and voting in improvised voting points.
There are protesters in the streets and near 400 were injured struggling with the police.
I cannot vote yeah or nay as i do not live there. I do remember a touring holiday and out Spanish guide was very disrespectful to our guide going through Catalonia that was 12years ago so discord has been going on a long time.
The violence from the police has been disgusting and Government leaders should be letting the Spanish no
