I was at a gas station where a person approaches me with this whole story about being homeless and needing gas to drive his wife to hospital so I gave him a five and he left the gas station without the gas. Yes call me a dumbs even though I don't mind giving to the homeless but some are just making it harder to want to give.

While at a Sam's Club I was approached by a lady who kept talking about how she lived somewhere is Kentucky and needed to get home and how she was embarrassed to ask etc etc.
I cut her off at the pass so to speak and asked her to get to her question.
I was once eating at Taco Bell when a homeless man walked up to me and asked for money. I offered him a burrito, still in the wrapper, but he said he "didn't want no stinkin' burrito" and he said he hoped I got cancer. This is typical of the response I get when I offer anything but money, and I'm not willing to give money to support someone's drug/alcohol habit.
One winter night I went into a store that makes the best chicken. It's not a fast food place, just a store that makes chicken soup, chicken parts and whole chickens.
There was a homeless man standing near the door with his shopping cart loaded with his possessions. It was the middle of winter and I knew in my heart I had to give that man some food.
I bought a whole chicken and a large chicken soup for him. When I came out of the store and handed it to him he looked at me in total surprise. I don't think he said thank you....maybe he did and I forgot....but it doesn't matter. All I wanted was for him to have a meal in his belly that night.
Jillll: Wow, Monte. I think you have have nicer bums than we do. Every time I offer food from the grocery store, they turn it down.
I know Jill that some homeless people want money for their next fix and I won't give money. I came out of a huge grocery store one day, drove up to the light and there was a man standing there with a sign "Need Food". I rolled down my window and told him I would meet him at the Burger King that was within our sight. I wasn't about to let him in my car. He refused. I drove away and wished him a good day. All you can do is try...
I agree with everyone, I do give if I feel its really a need, and yes a lot are just looking for the next fix, but I wonder should I feel better knowing at least my heart was in the right spot when I gave. There is a sense of fulfillment when I see a good thing done and then there is a sense of being taken advantage of too. There is always a story, but you can save it
Hi fjames ,Its hard to determine who is realy homeless or who is just having us on when they ask for money ..This is what happened just past days here in Ireland :-(
A HOMELESS man who died of hypothermia after sleeping rough in freezing temperatures was due to move into supported housing.
Paul Doyle (33), from Bray, Co Wicklow, was found outside the entrance to a Tesco Express supermarket in Quinsboro Road in the town just before 7am on Saturday.
Mr Doyle, who had suffered from mental health and addiction problems, had been sleeping rough for more than a year.
Annette Plunkett of Five Loaves said: "He would have moved into the house in the coming weeks.(TOO LATE )
"He was always transient and most nights he slept around the Tesco store. For him to die in that manner is just so tragic. To die on the street really is as bad as it gets.
"When you've been on the street for a long time you lose your dignity. A lot of them feel unwanted and unloved."
I could not pass anyone begging
I know some choose this life but not all and this young man should have been housed long time back but no they would rather have these "Ghost towns" all over ireland just lying idle
Sometimes if I see old people, I buy them something to eat. I also had stories with food thrown back at me. I don't give money because they spent it on alcohol or drugs or the money goes to the leader of the organised crime group.
I'll give to any homeless person, but I will put a curse on the money frist, so if they spend it on non esential living things, more bad luck will follow... I know the curse thing don't work, but its the thought that counts...
...Also, I would like to add, I think the real homeless ones are very grateful for what they recieve and usally they will let you know this, by a simple thankyou or something similar...

Hi Nuliiiiii--I've been reading this thread with interest. One can give or not give, either choice has no negative implication about the giver. BUT, once given, the money becomes the property of the homeless person, and like any other gift one gives, it is theirs to do with as they decide. If giving causes such consternation and regret, then I advise not to give money. But don't give with a "grudge". JMO
We have these people here standing with signs at the stop lights. They make a good living at it combined with their welfare or unemployment benefits, food stamps, medicaid, etc.

I have a story for u all. I had a old 87 chev. the passenger side back window would not roll up if u let it down. One day my brother inlaw had rolled it down after me just telling him not to. For 2 days it would not come up,It was getting ready to rain to. I had went grocery shopping came out of the store and there at the red light stood a man a vet, holding a sign will work for food. So there was a burger king on the next corner ,I went got him a complete whooper meal. That man couldn't thank me enough for the food it seemed. He went to a tree sat down and begin eating. I just stayed there for a couple mins . He ate like he hadn't had a bite in yrs. Well needless to say not even 5 mins after that something told me to try that window again to see one more time if it would work and sure enough it came right up. God works in misterious ways
Just because there are afew bad apples out there who try to pull fast ones from time to time doesn't mean I would not help someone who I can prove really and truly needs help.
It brings back memories of the time when my son was 5yrs old and his father had lost his job and we became homeless. The first couple nights we spent sleeping in our car and sell abunch of our belongings. We also had to give up one of dogs.We never knew there were any resources out there to help at the time.
After being homeless during that time frame I know all to well what that felt like. How those who are really homeless at no choice of their own doing.
I know there are the few bad apples but in the end I still find myself giving, I am not homeless and many times I was in need. I believe in helping one less fortunate or any human and dont think those few apples will ever change that. Thanks for all your comments

1Bell4truth: It is always up to the person to decide and follow their heart. But there are some people who can be gravely ill and appear healthy.
You are right but here in my country we do not have any social welfare system for jobless and homeless so they come to our business places and in homes in large numbers specially on every Thursday,we help some of them but cant to all because most of them had made it a profession here
Sometimes I give them money and sometimes I don't. Depends on the circumstances. Chicago is full of homeless people. Products of the public schools there.
There used to be a bunch of them at a train station where I worked. They were always doing something insane like breaking windows, breaking the AC unit for the whole station, taking baths in the toilets (I swear), using the sitting area ouitside the train station as a lavatory, etc. Once we found a pile of blood and glass outside a window. They got hopped up on drugs and played tag on the train tracks until one of them got hit. They used to drink outside the door and yell stuff at me when I used the door. They overdosed on drugs all the time. Good times. Good times.

Tom homeless peoples here made tenant house or temporary houses along the railway tracks on govt property untill government need that place they dont disturb them.Normally when govt need that place for infrastructure they provide them new place before removing them by force so they dont get homeless in this situation but begging money is not good.I know in Scandanavia you hardly found beggers some time you meet them in underground trains and stations. But problem here is that they can come to a shop in 100 numbers on thursday. They starts up in the morning its terrible
