Most of us relay on the so called holy scripts( Bible , Talmud,Quran , etc) when they think about God ,those are monotheistic teachings with variations ...God created Man in his image
It would be probably the same as asking, who created energy , as energy cannot be created or destroyed ...
So to answer your question , our mindset that we have now, experiencing the world around us with only 5 sense ,is unable to comprehend the true meaning of a higher life form

I think if aliens landed on earth long ago, to our primitive ancestors they must have been thought of as gods indeed

I think mankinds history is faaaaar older than mainstream archeology is aware of yet. I also believe we have been visited many times. Just like we are beginning to crawl around and explore our galaxy, so are alien life forms.
