Well CSers. John McCain pull a rabbit of his hat. Timed to take away the post DNC bump expected for Obama and Biden ticket, his VP choice of S. Palin has the media and the net stirring. She is the first woman to run for the Republican VP slot ever. Conservative and pro life. And is a reformer like McCain. So what do you think?

I'm a bit out of touch with the jargon, so maybe somebody could help me here.

1) pro life is that the same as wanting to make abortion illegal ?

2) according to wired.com

McCain's VP Wants Creationism Taught in School

does that mean she wants the kids to be taught in school that god created Adam & Eve
and then they had kids who then shagged each other and created, in a relatively short time,
every single human being on the planet today?

Every presidential wannabe has an agenda...don't care who they are: they all *want* something. Lots of them have wanted abortion outlawed....is it? No...checks and balances. Lots have wanted creationism taught in schools...is it? No....

We can all want in one had and crap in the other...see which fills up first. Just because they may want something, doesn't mean it's gonna happen.

Personally, I think the abortion issue should be put to a national vote: men excluded from voting! Leave that one to the women, who have to actually *carry* that bundle of joy around in their bellies!

And I'll admit, even as a conservative: creationism is just stupid.

There are varing degrees of pro life. Some want a complete reversal of Roe VS Wade......while others want abortion legal only for medical and
rape situations. The later is McCain's position by the way. I am not sure where Palin falls into this. She is pro life.....but what degree.

On creationism, most Creationist want some kind of creation theory....being taught along side evolution theory in schools. So that students would hear both side of the debate and could make thir own desicion and position on it. As it is today, evolution theory dominates the education teaching being given to student. There is little debate at the academic level for them. But that is where a debate of this matter should occur....that is the main intent of education is about....to open and share ideas, concepts that offer the student a choice to thier own beliefs and thinking.

If creationism is weak or unfounded....it will fail the test in the debate at the academic level. But what many academics have done.....is simply remove it from the debate...to win the debate. They made themselves, judge and jury, on creationism.

I personally am not big on creationsism. But what harm does it do to have several days of class time...in biology or human development classes to add it and to place a few questions in tests on it? If the instructor wished to show a balanced and overall big picture to the topic area....he/she would include it. Many school adminstrations are keeping them to strict course guideline that keep it out the classroom.

I don't know much about the woman so I shall reserve my judgment for now.

I do know that BHO is an empty suit who can read a good speech. I have to vote for McCain even though I know there has to be something better out there. I assume the people who would do a good job as President are too smart to want the job so we are stuck with crap choices.

Not even close.

The debate in the scientific community has been over for generations but the religious community still likes to muddy the water with the 'let's hear the other side of the debate' argument. Which is disenginuous to put it nicely. It fails the scientific method every time.

Creationism, or intell design, is not science so if you want it taught, teach it in religious studies or philosophy classes.

I don't see it either.

I see her as the token female to swing the vote that Hilllary would have gathered.

I have nothing against her as a politician.

I just see McCain choosing her as a manuever.

It takes two to tango! I don't see her turning this opportunity down.....maybe she, who is closer to the issue then we are, has judged and found merit in the situation?

Creationists want their version of events taught as science in science classes even though it's never been more than religious dogma or a philosophy. I attended Catholic school for eight long years and it's not something I'd like to do over.

I find the similarities very interesting. both camps have a young inexperienced member and an old(er) experienced member.
The difference is, if the president died in office one from old age the other from some racially motivated violence, who would become president?
On the one hand you would wind up with a young inexperienced female hothead who is virtually unknown to the people. On the other you would wind up with an experienced, well respected, known person who would have no trouble assuming the role of president.

This is rapidly becoming an election where the vice president is more important than the president.

Right now! If you had to choose between Susan Palin or Joseph Biden for President of the United States, who would you vote for?

It has been assumed by a many that Hillary supporters were mostly women and it is because she is a woman and no other reason. I find this assumption to be false. Many people were for Hillary (me included) not because she is a woman but because this would have gotten Bill Clinton back in the Whitehouse.

I think the McCain camp picked Palin because they bought the assumption that the Hillary voter is gender biased toward a woman. I think they may have just made a very big mistake which will cost them in November.

The typical female Hillary supporter will be insulted to think that their vote could be won by such a cheap trick of putting a woman on the ballot.

You make some points, but wait until all the gaffs and wise a** comments Biden's made over 30 years, showing him to be a hot-head come up in commericals....and I think she can pass muster...

And if a man of Biden's "stature" goes slapping around Sarah Palin on stage.... he's in deep sh-t... I can't wait for the debates. thumbs up Women will turn on him soooooooooo fast ~ Especially after how Obama snubbed Hillary.

I do suppose it could be a 'cheap trick' to put an old white guy on the ballot too...to cover Obama's white base and his lack of experience in any area. JMO angel

Just reverse your arguement, ooby_dooby.

Who would you vote for in position of the President....between Obama and McCain.....the inexpereinced or the expereinced?

Look McCain survives 5 and 1/2 years in a prisoner of war camp. And while the Dem might like to end his term in office early.....my bet is he can survive four years of Dem abuse.

I go with who shows the best judgement on the important issues of the day and Obama clearly has the upper hand.

Biden got it wrong on Iraq but at least he was able to admit it. McCain won't admit to diddly squat and his VP doesn't have enough of a record to know her take on anything except abortion and a big flip-flop on the bridge to nowhere.
