There are a lot of kids that are out of control these days and their parent's are not taking responsibility for them. They allow their kid's to do whatever they want to with no rules or discipline. I see young kids out on the streets late at night without their parents, on school nights. This is not acceptable. Where are their parents?

Put all the kids to work. I had my first jobs at the age of eight-years picking weeds and delivering firewood for a garden store. Teach them early to be responsible and understand the value of their money and you won't need to worry about curfews... IMO

Good idea! Teach them some responsibility, work ethic and what it's like to earn a dollar and what hard work is all about! I started raking leaves and mowing lawns in my neighborhoods at 10 then at 11 I started bussing tables at a friend's restaurant. I have never been unemployed since I started working at 10!
I had a curfew when I was a kid and my parents enforced it too.But there was also exceptions if we had special school events that would sometimes run past our curfews.
Jillll: A curfew would certainly get them off the streets but won't make their parents anymore responsible in childrearing.
True, but it might help minimize some crimes such as home/vehicle break-ins, vandalism, some drug deals, etc. I realize it's not much, but even if it helps or teaches one child, it's worth it.

Admirable! I chose to be unemployed only a few times since high school in order to complete a few quarters of study in colleges I attended. Some would say I was fortunate to do that. I say that is probably a fifth of it.
It seems that all the posters here had responsible parents and were responsible parents themselves but I go to Walmart or out to eat and I see parents who make no effort to discipline their kids. When I was growing up and also when I was raising my kids, all it took was "the look" to get them to behave or there were certain consequences.

Austin Powers and Doctor Evil had the same parents ,one became a good guy ( if you leave out promiscuity ) and the other ,bad ( okay he was adopted as a baby) Then we have Thor and Loki ,...Loki was adopted and Thor had some strange toy hammer In my personal opinion, both set of brothers have not been disciplined by their parents and therefore become a Menace...

I'm surprised you were able to get working papers when you were 10. I started working when I was 14 and I had to have working papers.

Laurel and Hardy turned out ok too. And they had to deal with everything in black and white.

Hi montemonte.
For raking leaves in the neighborhoods, you really didn't need papers for that. The authorities really didn't look at that as a real "job" so that was no problem. Now the job at age 11, was a little on the illegal side, shhhhh... The people I worked for were friends to my family. They took a chance and allowed me to work there and paid me cash which we call "working under the table". Meaning I wasn't on their payroll and there was no paper trail on me. Nowadays, I think you can get a job with papers at age 12 but only with minimal hours, at least in some states.

I notice you have no kids. So in this poll, you're the victim?
I think It would be very different where your from, I'm in Australia and kids do have curfews and are not allowed to work till they are 14. Unless they work for family, but can not get an income.
Its a matter of government responsibilities in my opinion. give the kids something to do...
My youngest is in training to be a professional boxer- she's 13 and we've waited 2 years to get her in... it's been a long haul and in the meantime, she's been in and out of trouble. My oldest (one I did earlier) was a dancer till she took on a full time apprentice- no real issues except for the bike gangs who harassed the poor thing for a year till we moved house....
who's a hassle in society?? kids, gangs, government...hmmm new world order advocate maybe??

LOL so it's ok to do things that are illegal but it's not ok for a kid to hang out after school.... LOL

Good point! You got me, what can I say?!? Better call the authorities...

No, CharliCat, you must misunderstand me. I'm not crying victim here and you are right I have no children but I'm very involved with my nieces and nephews. One sister of mine is a single mom, and her daughter was also a victim of bullying. It was very difficult for her. It occurred for years and no one did anything about it. She finally dropped out of school and got a GED which is equivalent to a diploma.
These kids that I talk about on the streets and that I trouble makers or the ones in Walmart, I do not have anything against them, actually it is the exact opposite. My heart poors out to them because they have no love or guidance in their lives. They probably come from bad backgrounds and their parents/parent doesn't even care about their whereabouts. So actually THEY are the victims.

I say No way ..... freedom is what many before us have died for in wars over the years ...
Why should the majority be penalised for a mongrel minority ....

Mum is probably on some kind of benefit and Dad is nowhere to be seen, for whatever reason.
That was the general theme amongst the worst offenders when I was a kid.
