The war in Syria has killed thousands and being one of the only secular governments in the middle east I want to know why people want revolution there instead of reform
Because Syria's population is composed of several ethnic and religious groups and SOME of those groups want power and DON'T want to share power with the other groups. So they fight, they ethnically cleanse and then blame everything on the government forces. And because the US, and some western countries want a more 'western' looking government, or because they have a score to settle, they allow these groups to continue and even arm and equip them. Israel isn't interested in a peaceful well governed Syria, they are quite happy with the status-quo, Muslims killing Muslim and Christians and a country in anarchy.

I have to agree and since I have been visiting more international social sites I am starting to see that other countries dont share the pro Israel bias that the USA does.
I am not anti Israel but a lot of people in my country have this opinion that Israel can do no wrong thanks to the slanted media coverage here.

In my opinion the previous status quo was better for Israel. Now are growing terrorist groups in Syria, and beyond their rivalities, they can join to support anti-israeli actions.
Precisely the strike wasn't over the Syrian Army but against Hizbullah bases with stockpiled missiles destinated to Israel.

Israel always ready to do the dirty job. I call it self-defense.

so me punching my next door neighbour cause he has bricks he might give to another neighbour to throw at me one day alows me to punch his teeth out that would be self defence in your mind then and legal?
Actually could not care less what the Isrealies do as long as British troops are not dragged into another war but bet we will
Not to be combative,, but it isn't a local matter when the West has provided Israel with millions, perhaps billions by now, in aid, weapons, and technology.

There are no just wars.
It's not a duel with equal weapons, or an sportive match. And also, the syrians aren't in a war against their neighbours, it's between themselves (or I should say between Al-Assad and the rebels).
It's sad that a country like Syria lives this situation. But would be worse that the situation extends to near countries.

No and No again!
I don't agree with ANY kind of violence, because this one just generates even more violence and death of innocent people
Always religion ..as an apology!!!!! No way...
THEY NEED TO ARRANGE SOME OTHER EXCUSE BECAUSE THIS ONE ALREADY....

The US is so incredibly involved in so many obtrusive ways - it isn't just about religion ... politics, oil, military industrial complex - it's a huge waste of humanity money and hope.
google:
1) Syrian Opposition Seeks Control of Oil Resources 2) Syrian rebels get influx of arms with gulf neighbors' money, U.S.
Not much to do with religion. It's made to look that way.
My fave alternative media resource for true historic perspective (on many issues):
I see the so called Free Syrian Army have been caught using Sarin. And yet the supposed Free West keep supporting them... them... a bunch of filthy Fundamentalist Terrorists.
this is why we need to ban war. It isn't just - all it is are those with the most money trying to capture resources so they can have more control and amass more money. It's pure hypocrisy and it destroys communities and families and causes us all to think bad thoughts about others when we all belong to the same family. The human family. Diverse we are, but, we are one. Peace to all of you.

the ones in power are unwilling to compromise fairly. revolution arises from oppression/depression...without revolution there is no reform.
once the war starts then is very difficult to contain...hatred becomes contagious...u kill my brother then I will kill yours...if we understand that were all brothers and sisters, then perhaps never a need for war in the first place!!! basic respect for others really!!!
the price of war can't be measured just like the needless lost of a life can't...but people will fight for equality, beliefs and freedom regardless of any price...this includes life...history shows were very slow to learn from past errors...the harsh reality is war will always exist in one form or another!!!
Sigh, and how are you suggesting we do that? Create ANOTHER Army? controlled by who? Rely on the peace fairies to come down from the sky and stop them? The Geneva convention and the other 'rules', occasionally enforced by the UN, have made wars more palatable, have made countries more willing to wage war rather than talk. If you want to make governments think twice about waging war remove the 'rules' make EVERYTHING acceptable. Governments are MUCH more likely to work harder at negotiations if the other side has nerve gases, chemical weapons and WILL use them if you attack. Even that will not stop all wars because there are always going to be disagreements which cannot be solved with negotiation, and there are always going to be lunatic government who 'think' they can win a war no matter what the opposition may have. I can't think of a single time when peace has reigned across the world in the last 2000 years. What does that tell you?
we ban all weapons of mass destruction, we jail the current perpetrators, we de-monetize war, we keep a watchful eye on politiicians - we de-monetize politics...
we recognize first that where there's will there's away, banning war needs to be comprehensive - it means changing economies... it's bigger than I can fully explain here... and - haha, I'm on a bus going over a windy mountain road at the moment. typing is challenging
Iuchi_Zien: Sigh, and how are you suggesting we do that?
Fear. Just like the fear of nuclear war which prevents total war in the modern world.
Animals that live peacefully are the ones under a permanent threat of some description - like rabbits, rabbits can breed in abundance and never conflict with other rabbits over resources because the rabbit population is constantly kept in check by a predator. Nuclear weapons to us are the equivalent of the fox to the rabbit, only they don't provide a population check which means that Humanity, unlike rabbits, comes to overpopulate the globe.
