If he hasn't responded in a number of days perhaps you've scared him off. Perhaps I'm more traditional in the sense that I think that while its appropriate for a woman to let a man know that she's interested in him, he is the leader. Yeah yeah I know there will be those who balk at my opinion, but that indeed is how I think. Now the hard part is to get me to agree!!! lol

Firstly, it depends on the context of your "talking" - have you been physically dating for long? Is your talking only on the internet, or phone or skype?
If you have not been physically dating, then I'd say that his response might be a natural one. Me personally, I couldn't give such an answer to someone that I might like, but whom I have not dated physically and spent time with in real time and for at least some time.
I went half way around the world to meet my fiance. She knew that she loved me without meeting me, and I felt strong feelings for her, but I had to make sure by physically meeting her and spending time with her.
The amount of information you have given does not allow a satisfactory conclusion to be formed. What do you mean by "talking"? Is there physical "dating" in there somewhere? The answer to this question will definitely determine what sort of "help" you might get from blokes. Yes even me.
We kind of need more information about the circumstances of your "talking" before we can realistically give you any idea why he is not talking to you still.
Did you start off by "talking" about how much you like him. Was that reciprocated? Then did it progress to that you love him? Was this then also reciprocated? Then did you ask him to marry you?
What is the background sequences and "talk" that led you to pop this question?

"Will you marry me?" is a "heavyweight" question. Whether asked too early or at the right time is irrelevant - it is the kind of "life" question that deserves an answer almost immediately (Like...."Wannna fight? Grrrr! :grin)
It seems he DID answer you immediately - he thought it was too early and wanted a longer courtship - and then proceeded to fade away. You do the math. If you truly feel he is worth it,....TALK!
