Barak Obama just attacked John McCain by saying that he is computer
illerate. That his age and experience don't blend well with clicking a keyboard and getting a computer to its stuff.

So is this a major issue? Or not?

Remember if anyone in the country can have others to type his letters, to do computer mass mailing, to even do computer security
program installations on his system, it is the President of the United States.

The ad show McCain arriving in 1982 in Washington with outdated computer....1980 garp......and goes into his less than fluency in computers and his long history in Washinton.

What do you think CSers?

Is John McCain's computer literacy relevant when considering your choice? Could it affect his ability to lead the country in any way?

I think it is a reflection of his apathy towards learning. How can one understand this post modern world without being wired in our technological society?

What does his computer illiteracy really mean? Does it mean he doesn't know how to use Windows? email? upload pictures? use an ipod?

I do not think computer literacy is a requirement for presidency. But he
should know how to push the big red button if necessary. rolling on the floor laughing

This is from a story By Mary Leonard, Boston Globe Staff, 3/4/2000 ...

"McCain gets emotional at the mention of military families needing food stamps or veterans lacking health care. The outrage comes from inside: McCain's severe war injuries prevent him from combing his hair, typing on a keyboard, or tying his shoes. Friends marvel at McCain's encyclopedic knowledge of sports. He's an avid fan - Ted Williams is his hero - but he can't raise his arm above his shoulder to throw a baseball."

And how about Bubba -

from Carol Felsenthal Posted July 7, 2008. The Huffington Post.

"....the New York Times's Frank Rich slams John McCain for not knowing how to use a computer.

Rich links to a blog on Mojo (Mother Jones) in which Jonathan Stein asks, "Do we want a commander-in-chief who can't use a computer without assistance?"

Stein does not mention that American had just that in Bill Clinton. He doesn't use a computer either and he's a generation younger than McCain. Bill Clinton has the excuse that he was imprisoned in the White House when the internet became huge; although that didn't stop his vice president, Al Gore, from being obsessed with the "world wide web" as a tool for research and communication.

As I wrote about Clinton in my recent book, and blogged here: When I was writing Clinton in Exile, I heard often about how technologically challenged the former president is. Aides to Bill Clinton told me that when they were in the White House Al Gore used to laugh at his boss's Luddite ways. "Gore used to make fun of Clinton all the time for not knowing how to turn on his computer," Elaine Kamarck, who had been a senior adviser to Gore, told me. Clinton still does not use a computer; he does not, and probably wisely, given his penchant for erupting into rages, use email -- his emails, news and blogs are printed out for him."

My two cents here.....

I would be more concerned if the persons running the NSA foreign wire tap computer did not how to work it, than the President not knowning how to run his.

Most all the info that the President get is in hard copy file form. Why?
If he is going to execute an order on it.....it needs a signature.

Obama is spinning the this.

One could say the ad is disparaging a handicapped person.

But then it is politics - anything to win no matter the cost.
