Veggies are made of living cells as well.

confused

What I have heard is that

"If they have a mother I will not eat it"

from vegetarians.

And there ia a big difference between a vegetarian an a vegan.

Other people's eating habits don't really concern me. I'm not vegetarian and I dated a guy for years who was. It was never a problem.

Well, veggies were once living too, so what's the difference? Scientific studies have shown that plants actually have feelings. They respond to sounds, music, touch & light just like any other living thing.

laugh So funny, Conrad!

I could just see some of our local beef ranchers posting these signs. They have license plates on their trucks saying, "Eat More Beef".

rolling on the floor laughing why does everyone think they have to justify their lifestyle - if a Vegetarian said this it is rather stupid thing to say because we all believe that vegetables in plant life - and the operative word is life.

so of course no it is not a valid argument. tongue

I don't know how wide-spread this is, but lately I've been hearing that it's about 'freshness', more so than whether it's plant or animal. Some cultures are more or less OK about eating, say, chicken or rabbit, as long as it was living just prior to preparation. We see and {sometimes} subconsciously understand that when we go to a restaurant that allows us to choose a live crab, crayfish, lobster, trout, etc...from a tank of the living creatures. Live markets abound in cosmopolitan cities, such as San Francisco, Boston, Paris, and Tokyo. Although I'm not vegetarian, lately I've almost stopped any beef eating. Fish and fowl are often the main course, but I go days without eating anything but fruit and vegetables. However, it is not a lifestyle so much as it is eating healthy and eating what I feel hungry for, which is often salads, avacadoes, melon, some cheeses, eggs, and sprouted wheat or other grain bread. It's working--I feel better and sleep better.

Eating to sustain life is a valid arguement...What one chooses to eat raises other questions...sustainability perhaps?

I often wonder when people feel the need to derogate a vegetarian diet, or expect people who don't eat meat to justify themselves, whether its because they're feeling sheepish. giggle

Jack68: laugh Ok grin Vegetarian peoples in India called the Cow with the name cow mother

I am sure you do know about Hinduism and the cow’s reverence and I do not see any problem with that per se but with so many children and people not getting enough nourishment I might treat those cows as not much sacred.

For Pakistanis –as well as for Mexicans at this moment-, other issues are much more important to take care of than calling the cow; Mother cow.

“…..Neighboring Afghanistan produces an estimated two-thirds of the world’s supply of illicit opiates, and more than 45 percent of it is trafficked to international markets through Pakistan every year. Local officials blame the illegal trade for the increased levels of opium and heroin use in Pakistan….”
