I don't know the difference either between coffin and casket. I thought they were the same. Don't try it tho. They are easier to get in than out and are quite uncomfortable. My family does not like the idea I want to be cremated. But I am quite comfortable with the thought. Also when planning I wanted to be as least trouble to my loved ones as one dead body could be. I don't want them to grieve. I want them to live. For that is what would make me happy. Is there a reason in your country they do not cremate?btw,never new the difference between coffin and casket.but they do look very comfy.id try it once if i ever got a chance.

i see.the reason is most people are folowing muslim tradition when its coming to burial (even when they never practice the religion) and get buried in the earth without coffin.
and others who r christians and jews follow their own traditions and bury as well.we never had people who believe in cremations so never have been practiced.and no places for such events.but i think modern people(who dont follow traditions) would prefer cremation so probably in the future we will have such premises.

It is compulsory to use a coffin here too Guzmán even for cremations but only as "rented" to trasport the bodies. Later, I guess those coffins are going to be used for someone else.
People's ashes are saved in containers -a great variety- and people are choosing cremation because it is also less expensive than the regular funeral.

Yes, it's a good question. It's not necessary a coffin, but the law says it's compulsory in cemeteries no matter the beliefs of the person.
Muslim cemeteries are excepted, but there are few in Spain, and the muslim families have to choose to send the bodies to another city, or usually to their countries of origin.
There was a case of a muslim woman whose corpse was sent to Bosnia in a coffin with a cross on the top, very usual in Spain. Her family claimed that it was offensive and finally they received a compensation.
