How long should you wait after a relationship to start dating again (86)
I know someone who was in a 2 year relationship and was back wanting to date within a week or two or less, is that normal? Is there no grieving time?

I think it's a good idea to wait until the grieving is done and any anger (baggage) is neatly tucked away and collecting a little dust. In my experience, rebound relationships don't work too well.

If it's over, it's over. And why put off tomorrow what we can do today?But the reality of it is that each person is different. Some may be ready to date again right after leaving a relationship, while others may still need time to heal their emotional wounds.
It's the rebounds that often end up causing the most problems, as those can be used as a weapon against the former partner. I've had that particular weapon aimed at me a time or two, but never loaded one myself, since I have no need for revenge. Just move on and don't carry a pocket full of regrets.

So really my point is, seems like some people fall in love every other day...I still get text from ex once or twice a week even though he got married 2 weeks ago, one said that he still loved me, but he is content now....see how messed up things get, so that's the main reason I just don't get it...I must have a really warped version of what love is...

i'm not sure there's a 'time'...it's going to be unique to each situation. some folks start dating long before they physically leave a relationship as they've mentally left it much earlier. for others, they need some time alone to sort themselves first.
i think the answer lies within one's intentions.
there is no 'right' time, one just needs to get honest with themselves about what they are seeking. (are you processing your feelings, or avoiding them, are you ready to move on, are you deflecting...yada yada..)

There are things to consider.. not all relationships are the same. Some aren't close, intimate, serious etc, or maybe that person has fallen out of love with the other for some time.. or never loved to begin with. It could have been a convenience thing! As well, the relationship could have been just bad news.
Regardless, I would feel pretty foolish dating someone after a week.. coming from a two year relationship.

this is the first time I've ever been alone since I was 15 yrs old...oh a month here and there, but I've been on my own for 2 yrs and I really love it...yes I get lonely at times but my freedom means the world to me at this point in my life

That's sooooooo bad!!!!! I think the reality is that each of us is different in how we deal with life and as stated by others that some have "left" the relationship far before they have physically moved on therefore who is to determine whether there is a certain time frame?
Do what works for you and when you are comfortable it will feel right. A good indicator for me when speaking with someone about where they are in their life is what are they talking about ie. their ex. and all the troubles and woes means to me that they aren't "present". I'd rather met someone who talks about him and me if I were thinking about dating.
