I got blasted like everyone in the era with a scaring type needle causing scarring in my left arm. Should I research or say oh well.

Yes, I do. Along with several others for polio, tetanus, and TB. In my adult life I was further scarred by shots for Cholera, Yellow Fever, Tetanus boosters, Rabies, Influenza, Haepatitis, Typhoid Fever,.....and I have never had any of the above. I was exposed to numerous diseases as a child (Chicken Pox, Mumps, Measles, etc), caught them all, and now have a lifelong immunity. As a farmkid, I was exposed to all sorts of germs, never drank chlorinated water, drank unpasturized milk, drank well water from the earth, never used hand sanitizer or other anti-bacterial agents, uh,....yup,...my body has been exposed to many microscopic life-forms and has learned (either naturally or through deliberate exposure) to deal with them.

Thanks to vaccination, smallpox is now "extinct" (although it is somewhat presumtuous to title any RNA-based virus as "extinct"). I cannot in my lifetime remember anyone contracting poliomelytis,....but I have met many who were crippled by the disease prior to the vaccine.

I personally am thankful that against the "tough" diseases I was exposed to "dead" pathogens allowing my immune system to recognize the denizen. Granted, the "live" pathogen" would have allowed me the same opportunity,....but there is a difference between seeing a Hells Angel in a picture as he lay in a coffin as opposed to spilling a beer over a live one in a bar!

However, a person's life is a person's life and which aspects of medical advances one chooses to accept is up to them,....unless it affects my basic health,.....ya hear me Typhoid Mary?

I have had 2 or 3 smallpox vaccinations and no scaring...

i haz a razor blade cut on my finger had to get 7 stitches, finger still isnt up to full caspticty and stuff...
