Sorry. I had limited room. There are so many of them though I couldn't fit the Smiths on there. I didn't think of them as alternative. Of course I am not really familiar with their music.
Grrrrrr!!! Yes ok , Cobain was a tormented genius but, whenever anyone mentions grunge, it's Nirvana this, Nirvana that, well what about the band that should have got most of the acclaim for grunge.....Mudhoney!!!
If you're gonna do a poll of late 80's- early 90's alternative rock where was Rage Against The Machine?
I voted for the Pixies too Ken, soz for earlier it was said jokingly as I was underneath the pee-wee Herman comment!!!

Yeah Mudhoney is great too. Not everyone knows who Mudhoney is but they were part of grunge. I can acknowledge that.
Sorry...I had to vote for Nirvana as their the ones I'm most familiar with...some of those I'd never heard of, though I've probably heard some of their songs.
The radio station I listen to plays a wide variety...but never announces who and what the songs are, which is my only complaint about them.

I love it when someone tells me to f**k off...I just start laughing!!
Yes, maybe Nirvana are the symbol of the alternative rock, but I voted for Stone Temple Pilots.Their album "Core" is top of the pop for me.It s strange that they aren t from Seattle. They originated from San Diego.
i'd have to go with the pixies. the first time I heard surfer rosa was at this girl's flat and it knocked me out. i'd also like to give special mention to pavement and sonic youth. great bands.
