JeanKimberley: perhaps Paris? Is it not the city for lovers?
Have you been to Paris?? I think not, it is far from being romantic, it smells awful, the Parisian people are incredibly unfriendly, even to other French citizens from out of the region. Yes it has beautiful buildings, museums and art, but the city of Love? No way, just a story made up to boost tourism.
Italy has the most wonderful romantic cities in Europe, and some of the friendliest kindest and truly wonderful people on this planet.

I have not been to Paris since I was 6 years old - so of course - and I have heard that Indian cities have the same terrible smell...
maybe some smaller city in the south of France is lovely?

Yes rizalred, I agree with everything you say about Paris. I used to live in Paris before I immigrated to Canada about 15 years ago so I know what you are talking about. Monday mornings everyone is in a bad mood. Even language school officials are nasty. The French want everyone to speak their language all the time. Bank employees were the worst in my experience. You better speak some French when you live there.
Well that is very beautiful, and home to Edward and Wallis Simpson, so if good enough for British/American royalty.......... For France:- Brittany is stunning, Sault in Provence the home of Lavender, Lyons for food, or my favourite place in France Montpellier for wine women and the sea.

I had to work there for a month and hated it, I was so disappointed, I had heard all these wonderful stories and then found the reality was the reverse, I didn't so much mind them wanting me to speak their language, its their country after all, but soon found they pretended not to understand my French and would laugh at my efforts, I developed a complex about my language skills until I worked in Rennes and found that there they understood me perfectly well, even with my awful grammar and pronunciation, it was then that I learnt that Parisians were disliked by the rest of France, for their rudeness and arrogance.
oh gosh, I don't know this side of Annecy. It looks awful.
We were on our way to Geneva, Switzerland and my friend took me to the mountains in the French Alps and lakeside Lake Annecy in Annecy. This is a long time ago in the mid 90s.
