If it's not archived, it's usable.
As well as the old friends thing, some threads which had few contributions in the past (maybe created at a quiet time, maybe people weren't interested at the time) can take off when resurrected (maybe different, or more people about with fresh ideas).
And if a resurrected thread doesn't interest anyone, it disappears again.
I wonder why some people might object to resurrected threads.

Let me ask you something how many threads/polls blogs ,in your opinion ,deserve an attention span of 2-3 years ???What question or topic demands the attention and polemic over several years ..two, three tops ???
Mind you, upon reflection, people going back and resurrecting old threads could be seen as a reaction to the decline of the quality of threads currently being posted..
