I have a crappy job I really hate more every day. All of these would be from this job, sadly, I have had a lot of jobs these categories would also be true.

My place is dusty and pretty dirty but the money is clean. I try to look at the positives though and the negatives seem less.
Stress, and the things I've seen that have seared into my brain forever. Who knew people could live like that? But other than the ball-breaking pressure and the images that will haunt me for the rest of my life, it's great.

Been there and felt that.
I haven't read the thread yet - what is it about the job that you dislike so much?
Right now I have a job in which my boss is chaotic, micro-managing and procrastinates on the tasks only she can do. I like her as a person, but as a leader.... she leaves much to be desired.
I am one of those detailed-oriented, organizational processes and systems freaks, which works well for my job and tasks. She on the other hand, is all over the place, have more than 200 emails and she has no filter system in place, no file folders. It drives me crazy because I want to "organize" her and manage her. I want her to be the good leader and listen and think before she fires off rapid commands. It worked well for her in her previous job as a news reporter - it does not work well in the work environment we are in. In my opinion a good boss hires the staff and gives them the tools to do the job and the vision or direction or mission and then let's them do it.

“The only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven’t found it yet, keep looking. Don’t settle. As with all matters of the heart, you’ll know when you find it.”
and I would add - look for another job while you still keep working (and don't get caught). I would never leave one job without lining up and getting another - even if it is a promotion in another area of the company.
You cannot change your work circumstances but you can change yourself.
I realized that if I wanted to take control of my job, I had to get some better set of skills and talents - so I went back to school at night and worked during the day. It was a sacrafice but worth it. Maybe it means taking art lessons, or other types of classes not necessarily academic school - I don't know your job or your environment.
I had a micro managing boss one time. After a performance review interview he asked me what could he do for me to make my job easier? I said "ya know what I wish for?" "What"? "I wish you would just let me do the job I was hired to do, You brought me here at great expense because I had the knowledge, experience, and skill set you were needing, you pay me top dollar and here you are trying to tell me how to do my job. You could get some guy off the street for half what you're paying me and you can hold his hand all day and tell him how to do everything." Dead Silence. He left me alone from that moment on, I like to think it was a wake up call for him.
I dont really like my current job, because I have no passion for it even when I tried to like it. I know what makes me happy and enjoying my time at work and doing. But boss took it away from me and said that it's not my choice and I should be as front liner not the back. So, I refused when they want to extend my work contract that comes to end this mid of the month

Then quit.
Why people do a job they hate, I never understand.
I love my job and my only gripe is that sometimes I am away from home for a week or so.

Well good for you - there is a reason work is a four-letter word. Some people, actually most people do not have the luxury to do the job they like. They have duty and obligations and people to support.
It does irritate me a smidgen when people "la-de-da" about other people's situations. And of course you know 2girlsnocup I am not griping at you just at the comment. I believe you said it innocently enough. But that is because you are in control of your life. Not a lot of people have that luxury - no matter how hard you work or they work, sometimes most people have to take a job they hate.
Quiting is a luxury - children can't eat quiting, mortgages don't get paid with quiting -
ok rant over - my point is just that it is too easy and quick to say that.

My comment was said without malice.
Only an idiot would quit a job without having another lined up. While you are in a job you hate, you have the perfect chance to look for something you would want to do.
From an employer's point of view, I would rather lose people that hated their jobs, than have them staying on the payroll. If someone hates their job so much, they are not going to give as much effort and commitment, as someone who loves it.

this is so true. but there are a lot of jobs out there that employers need to hire folk to fill. and I know it was said without malice and that you were making the point you make above - which is a good point.

Though some employers, don't give a cr*p about that , as long as the work gets done...they don't *care* about satisfaction so to speak

If you have the skills, an employer will bite your hand off to take you. It's easier for them to have a skilled person, than to waste time training them, only to find they leave after a year. The economy is on it's way back up, so now is the perfect time to look around.
I have never hired anyone without passion for the job in hand. I know personally all of the staff, and make it part of my duty to make their stay in employment as pleasurable as possible, from conditions, to pay as well as perks every now and then.

Nowadays, they restructure companies with too many levels of management. The top has no idea what is going on, and they are fed a load of garbage by the people under them. That continues down to the bottom, where the workers end up being treated like mushrooms.
Cut the management, and more often than not, you'll find the company will work like a well oiled machine. Production and more importantly, morale will increase, giving everyone something to look forwards to.

Cut the management.....Ain't gonna happen in reality
2girlsnocup: I'm a bit higher up than that. I deal in a boardroom level.
Wow chapeaux , I guess the apprentice its the kind of programs that you watch. Kidding apart, I'm sure I saw once Alan Sugar in an Italian program , speaking perfectly Italian. If it wasn't him , it was somebody dead drop looking like him !!

Lofty ideas however, we are talking about humans who are not only the lowly mushrooms but the management and the leaders as well. You give us humans too much romantic characteristics. there is a reason that the government comes in and makes labor laws, and holds people accountable for their "desire" to run like a well oiled machine. It's people! (last statement a quote from Soilent Green).
